The Faith of the ACLU
From the very beginning, the ACLU has not only taught us to have faith in ourselves as American people, but also to have faith that our government will uphold our rights. Before the ACLU, no faith could be placed in the government to respect ones rights, when no organization existed to defend those rights. Now we can have more faith in the courts because a body of law has been created with the help of the ACLU to secure our civil liberties. We may also find more faith in ourselves to take the risk of speaking out because we know that the ACLU will always back up our rights. Most of all, the ACLU gives us faith in the democracy that our forebearers spent so much time and effort to build by allowing us to enjoy the benefits of a society where the people rule. We may also place our faith in the hope that the minority will always be heard no matter what the circumstances.
