March 12, 2003 became another black day in the history of Yugsolavia. The Prime-MInister, Dr. Zoran Djindjic has been assasinated by unknown sniper at the entrance to the governmental building. During the same day, Government accused mafia, so called "Zemun Clan", in the assasination and introduced the state of emergency.
While never too popular and often critized, Djindjic was a symbol of change - pragamtic and desicive politician with whom many people have associted the hopes for ne future for the country. In the days after the assasination, the Government of Serbia has vowed to continue the course of reforms started by Djindjic and eradicate the organized crime.

4 hours after the assination government has introduced the state of emergency. Special units of police took over the conrol of the city. Police started the biggest ever raid against crime - less than a week after more than 600 arrested including many current and former top persons from government, police and army
More than hundred thousand gathered for the funeral of Prime Minister Djindjic. The funerals became a demostration of peoples will to live in a new country and to continue reforms
Road checks become a routine things however police strives to act correctly and avoid unnesessary tension
The most popular Serbian pop singer - "Ceca" - arrested due to connections to mafia. Police links her to assasins through her husband who was killed in 2000 and was the biggest criminal leader in Balkans as well as leader of paramilitary troops during the Bosnian war. Police raided her house and found large ammounts of weapons and police equipment
