1)Does she conform to the Samoyed standard? Is she structurally, physically mentally
sound? Have you had an experienced Samoyed breeder go over her
(and I'm not talking about a "backyard breeder" but
someone who SHOWS Sammies and has been in the breed for an extended
amount of time)? Has she been shown and won ribbons to prove
she is a credit to the breed? Just because a dog is "pretty"
or "gets along well with the kids" or is just "so
sweet" is NO reason to breed. Unless they are of EXCELLENT
QUALITY conformation wise (structurally, physically &
mentally) and have been assessed by reputable breeders, then
the dog is NOT of breeding quality. I would suggest spaying your
beloved pet and buying a QUALITY SHOW puppy from a RESPONSIBLE
breeder.
2)Is she OFA certified? CERF certified? Has a brucellois
test been done? (this is a vaginal disease she can give to the
stud dog, ALL dogs are tested for it before being bred even the
stud dog). Have any other health tests been done, such as gonioscopy,
thyroid, elbows etc? All of these test are necessary and done
by ALL RESPONSIBLE breeders. NO dog should be bred without these
tests.
3)Are you prepared to GUARANTEE your puppies? That is
to provide contracts on the pups that guarantees them against
ALL hereditary diseases and common illnesses possibly contracted
before they left your house? To guarantee money back? FULL PRICE?
To check out each and every home to be sure the pups get only
the best placement? Give spay and neuter guarantees, such as
partial refunds when it's done? As responsible breeders we want
only the best possible caring homes for our pups. And because
we have such faith in the quality of animal we produce we have
absolutely no qualms in providing FULL money back guarantees
on our pups. And as responsible breeders when we sell a puppy
as "pet quality" or as I like to term "companion
quality", there is ALWAYS a spay/neuter agreement that offers
partial refunds when done.
4)A month down the road, perhaps a year or perhaps 5
years later one of your puppy people decides they can no longer
keep the dog. They need to get rid of it now! Are you prepared
to take them back? No questions asked? Every responsible breeder
I know even has this in their contracts. And that is if at anytime
the new owner is unhappy with the dog for ANY reason, they are
to contact the breeder FIRST. We take all of our dogs back in
a heartbeat! no matter what age, what condition etc.
This is only the tip of the iceberg
as to what a prospective stud owner is going to ask you. Breeding
dogs is a very SERIOUS matter and should never be taken lightly.
I haven't even begun to touch on the financial matters involved
in breeding, such as stud fees, bitch care ( veterinarian checkups,
possible c-sections, food, vitamins etc.) puppy shots, puppy
food, puppy packets to be given with each pup, vet checks. These
cost usually run into the thousands and you NEVER, NEVER make
money on a litter!
As responsible breeders we are only trying to help you understand
what is involved and what is means to carefully plan a breeding.
We don't take it lightly, we're very serious about it. We have
years and years of experience to back it up. So please re-consider
your breeding and don't be afraid to ask questions, by all means
email me anytime. I'll be more than happy to talk to you.
