Pipe Smoking is Good
Pipe smoking is better than cigarette smoking. As my friend Dave Sampson puts it: cigarette smokers don't give any thought to the damage they are doing to their lungs and health, but when I pack a pipe, I have plenty of time to weigh the consequences. It's almost disrespectful, given the power that tobacco can have over us, to pop in a tube of nicotine for a "quick smoke."
Besides the external, reckless attitude towards tobacco that cigarettes impart to their consumers, their method of nicotine injection is flippant and annoying. Long, exaggerated inhalations, followed by loud, selfish, masturbatory exhalations. Who needs to hear that?
Pipe smokers are calm, sophisticated, and respectful. We respect the smoke enough to not inhale it; instead we simply taste it, and send it on its way. This leaves with us a pleasant taste, a mild aroma, and just enough nicotine to relax, without being addictive. That's right, pipe smoking is completely non-addictive. And, because we don't consume the smoke carelessly, it's actually healthy. Pipe smokers are 10 times less likely to die of heart disease. I made up that last sentence, but I bet if you smoked a bowl of tobacco, and then ran a marathon, you'd win.
