COMMENTARY: We only managed 12 players for Retro '69, so maybe the momentum is lost. But most who played agreed that this was a good time for pop/rock music. Eight songs fell out of the Top 40 this week from 32 years ago. As usual, Soul took the biggest hit as R&B faves Aretha Franklin, Jr. Walker, The Dells, The Impressions, & Lou Rawls all fell more than 10 positions. But one Soul song moved UP 18 spots. Classic Rock ruled as usual, with prime movers The Doors, The Who and Donovan all emerging from outside the Top 40. Billboard seemed to know what it was talking about as "Sugar Sugar" retains its Number One position garnering 10 out of 12 mentions. I'm especially thrilled since this Archies hit is my All-Time Number One. The rest of the Top Ten is relatively unchanged, with the exception of Tom Jones' humongous plunge downward! When you read the chart, you're looking at--from left to right--Joel Whitburn's BB ranking, the Chart Club ranking, the # of points, the # of mentions, Title, Artist, Billboard peak position, and Date of Peak. Special thanks to Adam2 (breakerfall); Chris (plannine); Dave (Scoobydave); Jesse; JohnKeith (dmnodncr); Marc (mdnathan); Mel (Macstar); Robert (Robertr); Steve (lonestarboydfw); Tim (beyondradio); & Tim (lufaphs) who are the Cream of the Chart Crop by participating in this endeavor. These chart experts know more about pop music than anybody else. If you think you're as savvy as this great bunch of guys, I urge you to play the next Retro, which should take place in September. Thanks for help making this so much fun for me! --Sammyboynyc
