In a quick, exclusive interview with CINESCAPE magazine at the 28th annual Saturn Awards, Paramount Pictures president Sherry Lansing gave us another indication STAR TREK: NEMESIS would not be the final film for the cast of THE NEXT GENERATION.
Why? Well, while she can be expected to laud her own company's movies, when a studio head talks about how people have loved a series of films for years, it's an indication the latest entry might not be so hot. But when they say things like this, it's an indication things could be very good for TREK fans.
"We think it's arguably the best one we've seen yet," Lansing said. "And that's saying a lot. It's spectacular. I just saw the first cut of it. The script is fabulous, by John Logan and Stuart Baird did an amazing job of directing it. We have the amazing actors back and I'm very excited."
Michael Biehn
By JILL FEIWELL
Actor Michael Biehn ("The Terminator," "Aliens") will topline Tribune Entertainment and Fireworks Entertainment's forthcoming weekly firstrun actioner "Adventure Inc." Series, which will detail the exploits of a legendary explorer (Biehn), preems in October. Clearances for the program have increased to more than 125 markets throughout the U.S., including 49 of the top 50 markets.
Jay Firestone and Adam Haight will serve as executive producers of the program for Fireworks, with Gale Anne Hurd exec producing for Tribune.
Berman Says Nemesis On Track
Star Trek producer Rick Berman told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming 10th film in the franchise, Star Trek Nemesis, is looking good and is right on schedule for release in December. "The studio [Paramount] is very, very pleased," the executive producer said in an interview. "Actually, the only notes we've gotten from the studio were to put some stuff back in that we'd taken out of the film."
Berman is also readying season two of UPN's Enterprise, which will begin filming in about two weeks. "We're busily editing [Nemesis ], and they couldn't be more pleased," he said. "They are extremely pleased with our guest star/villain, Tom Hardy [who plays a Reman named Shinzon]. We're working away at all the things that one works away at at this stage of the game, which are the title sequence and trying to get the special effects done. We're also preparing for the final sound mixes and things [like that]. That's always a very daunting task at this stage."
From the Official Michael Biehn Fan Club, Direct from Michael:
When talking with Alicia on 6/12/2002 Michael Biehn reported:
"No, I am NOT in a cameo in T3. I am in no way involved." Upon hearing his
statement Alicia replied with, "I don't think it will be that great anyway."
His response was "It's not Jim Cameron, period. And you can quote me on
that!"
The independent film Borderline...
"This was a small production, and I am not sure if it will be on HBO, or some cable station like TBS. The talk is that it may air this summer, but I am not sure of that."
Michael Biehn starred with Gina Gershon and Sean Patrick Flannery. The filming lasted 6 weeks in Cape Town, South Africa. Gina Gershon plays Dr. Lila Colleti, a psychiatrist who works with male prisoners in a state prison. Gina's character is having trouble in her marriage and is going through a nasty custody battle with her ex-husband and his new wife. Suddenly the husband is murdered and Dr. Colleti is implicated as possibly being involved. Michael Biehn plays Macy Kobacek, the cop investigating the crime with the added wrinkle is that he is Lila's current boyfriend.
On to Clockstoppers...
Alicia told him how much her family liked the film, and he said "Thanks, I appreciate that. It really did not do as well as we had hoped. We were hoping for major grosses like Spy Kids had, but it did ok. I really enjoyed making it and thought the reviews were tough. They almost considered it an adult film and it was for a kid market, marketed on Nickelodeon. It made about 40 million in the US and only cost about 20 million to make. Probably not enough to warrant a sequel. No mention of a sequel yet anyway."
A new series...
Michael said from Canada this morning "Brilliant! I could not be happier! I am working with an excellent team of people, including Gale Anne Hurd. They have a wonderfully talented ensemble here."
He is extremely excited about his leading role, Judson Cross. The TV series is being produced by Gale Anne Hurd and Philip Siegel. It's loosely based on the real life adventures of Barry Clifford, a modern day explorer.
They have not set in stone his co-stars. Shooting for the series starts Monday, 6/17/2002 and the show should begin airing in October. Michael's family will soon be joining him in Canada and any other locations for the duration.
As soon as we get the go ahead from the publicist and the official press release, we will have a lot of quotes and input from Michael to add. He talked so much, Alicia had trouble writing it all down!

Ron Perlman Talks About The Challenge's That His Costume And Make - Up
By Ian M Cullen
In a new interview conducted by Ian Spelling for Star Trek: Monthly actor Ron Perlman told of some of the problems he faced with the make up and costume for his role in Star Trek Nemesis. Referring to his latex face and headpiece the actor said. "It doesn't seem to let much oxygen in a pinch, so am breathing out of my mouth and nose and not much else. I can't take it off until the end of the day. It takes a couple of hours to put on and the days have been anywhere between 12 and 17 hours, no less than 12 and probably close to 15 on average."
In regards to the physical demands of his costume the actor commented about the difficulties he had and said. "I have almost no mobillity in it," He adds. "Almost everything I do I'm fighting the costume. This is a very unique excersize in pacing yourself, and I come up short every day. Every night I go home just whipped, really whipped."
Perlman is no stranger to Genre movies having played a number of roles in Sci FI and Horror projects such as Cronos, The Island Of Dr Moreau, and Captain Zoom In Out Of Space, (In which he acted alongside Star Trek: Original series cast member Nichelle Nichols). The actor is no stranger to wearing latex based guises either having portrayed the role of Vincent in the 80s show 'Beauty and the beast' along side Terminator actress Linda Hamilton. As the actor explains the make up can make the world of difference to portraying alien characters.
"There's no way you can create a character like this until you're actually in the get - up and look at yourself in the mirror," he explains. "That basically is ths first clue as to what he walks like, talks like and what his mindset is, and that dictates everything else. So you so some generalised homework about the guys cercamstances, but you really have to wait until everybody puts on you what it is they're putting on you to create what is not human, but an abstraction."
The actor also had a lot of praise for the acting of Tom Hardy (Shinzon) who is the main villain of the movie. "I've got a lot of faith in the kind of career he's going to have," he says. "He takes a tremendous approach to the work. He's a very serious actor without taking himself too seriously. Thats a great combination."
So should the Viceroy survive Nemesis to fight another day would the actor reprise the role for another feature. "Well, the cool thing about it is, I could be in the next Star Trek movie and nobody would know it's me." Perlman says referring to the nature of roles that require heavy make over. The actor concludes, "But, no, I would rather do this one this one time. I've played a lot of characters that I could play for a lifetime. This is one I would prefer to do as a one - shot."
You can read more of this interview with Ron Perlman in the new issue of Star Trek: Monthly where he goes on to talk about his friendship with Jonathan Frakes as well as more insights about the movie.
