Ode to a Muse

Art Psychology Sociology

It is the unseen force, the myths and archetypes, as Carl Jung discusses that allow one to peer into the psyche by way of the artist. The issues that affect us, are channeled through the artist, translated and offered back to society with some degree of resolution.
The artist, like a shaman, mixes the medicine and offers up the resolution to the community. Sometimes the artist exposes a unique perspective, which can have the effect of revealing something hidden and act as a balm. The arts allow us to peer into ourselves by holding up a mirror. The arts can help us to live, grow and to stay connected to our shared humanity. The arts then, are truly food for the soul.
The world moves at an alarming, frenetic rate and humanity is often ignored or trampled upon. It is the artist that can help us to navigate through this mystery, our existence, in a more tolerant humane manner.
The arts allow for expression and release in a unique and essential way. Acting as a link into our personal and collective psyches. As humans, we experience many emotions and longings, that only a painting can express, or a poem, or a song allowing us to reflect. The arts can allow us to tap into these spaces. When we embrace the arts, we embrace our humanity.

It is usually the small voice that does not get heard within a community. Traditionally, the majority often rides roughshod over justice and equality. There is always a potential and inherent danger of tyranny of majority, when the minority is not given a voice. A democracy is not simply "majority rule", but rather, a form of government where the minority can live among the majority and share in the opportunities and the same freedoms among which, the freedom of expression. It is our aim to address this concern and allow for expression to an array of diverse groups and opinions and lifestyles.
