| Grad 202: College Teaching. The course outlined many different learning styles, teaching techniques, and grading standards.� The class culminated in each participant developing their own course (with syllabus), preparing a teaching portfolio, and presenting a mini-lecture, which was peer-reviewed. | |||||||||
| Grad 205: Preparing for the Professorate. This course introduced different areas of interest for new and aspiring professors.� Topics included structure and classifications of the university system, tenure, job interviews, grant writing, and publishing. � | |||||||||
| UNC Center for Teaching and Learning workshop series. Seminars addressing various topics of concern for teachers or those interested in teaching. Broadly designed to apply to both liberal arts and the sciences. | |||||||||
| Duke University Certificate in Teaching College Biology Program. Program that develops skills necessary to become effective biology instructors, including exercises that create a competitive teaching portfolio. Through the mentorship portion of the program, I met with Dr. Karen Bernd at Davidson College, where under her guidance I prepared sample syllabi in Immunology and Cell Biology, gave a practice job seminar, as well as having many interesting discussions on various teaching topics! | |||||||||
| American Society for Microbiology Conference for Undergraduate Educators (May 2005 Atlanta, Georgia). Three day conference discussing various aspects of teaching Microbiology, including plenary speakers, workshops, and informal discussion sessions. | |||||||||
