| Winter Guard International (or WGI), the sport of the arts, was founded in 1977 to draw together the growing winter color guard activity, standardized rules, and provide leadership and guidance. In 1991 indoor drumlines formed and began competing nationwide. Today more than 150 percussion ensembles from 20 states and 5 counties are taught by the biggest names in marching percussion providing youth with the ultimate learning experience. WGI combines the intensity of the audience with the intimacy of the up-close performance. Much of what you see today in Modern drum corps drumlines, originated from the WGI indoor circuit. | Drum Corps International (or DCI) was founded as a non profit youth organization in 1972 for kids ages 14 to 21. Since it's modest beginnings, 28 world championships in 16 cities have provided entertainment to half a million people in stadiums and millions more through the PBS telecast each year. Regional, focus, sponsored, and sanctioned shows have also brought the drum corps activity many more people in hundreds of cities and towns throughout North America. The life-enhancing, character-building experiences, including the joy of learning and playing music, the thrill of athletic achievement and performing in front of thousands of fans cannot be found anwhere else bexcept in the drum corps activity. | Drum Corps Associates (or DCA) was founded with the primary function to provide an organization of senior drum and bugle corps with rules and regulations that provide continuous progress and growth for senior drum and bugle corps. DCA was designed without age limits so that age outs (people over 21) could continue in their learning process, which is why DCA corps are the most experienced. Senior drum and bugle corps only perform on weekends allowing them to make money and do drum corps simultaneously. With that in mind, the corps have to practice individually on their own time at home in order to achieve the ultimate performance. DCA's audience has a right to recieve excellence. Our corps have the challenge, the commitment, and the responsibility to deliver it. |
