About Me

Call me Sameer. Officially Sameer Saproo, I come from one of the most picturesque, beautiful, amazing and unfortunate places on earth , Kashmir.

Though I come from Kashmir I have rarely lived there. I spent most of my childhood in Punjab and hopped from city to city. I have attended 3 different schools encompassing 3 different educational systems viz. CBSE, ICSE & State Board. Starting from St. Joseph's Boy's Convent, Jallandar  Punjab, I moved to DBN Vidya Mandir, Jammu J&K, to complete my class 10th, whereupon I shifted again to another school, BSF School, Jammu J&K. Post high school, I completed my Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) majoring in Information Technology (I.T) from University of Mumbai (Sardar Patel College of Engineering).

Completing college I had a brief stint with Caritor (India) for about 4 months, a job which I promptly quit to become a part of the SAP family. After 2.5 eventful years as Development Specialist at SAP Labs India, I moved on to do something meaningful with my life and career. In 2007, I completed MS in Computer Science from Bren School at University of California, Irvine, with concentration in Artificial Intelligence. I started my PhD program in the Cognitive Sciences department at UCI shortly after finishing my Masters. However, my advisor moved to UCSD the following summer and I moved with him. Currently, I am pursuing PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience under Prof. John Serences at UCSD. My research has a mix of AI & Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Information Theory and Visual Cognition. So far it has been a wild ride ...
