Week 25 – Conversations with Eurydice
Here are some things to keep in mind while reading this column: none of the events described herein took place in the real world, and when someone’s name appears in brackets, it’s because in the conversation, the real name was used then, but I took it out either due to my inability to remember it, such as [Eurydice], or because I’m using a letter instead of the name, such as [R]. Keep in mind also, that some fragments of these may have been lost in the transition from dream to memory to Microsoft Word.
The scene opens in a strangely twisted version of the trailer park downtown, for those of you who’ve played Silent Hill 1, the Dark Silent Hill of that game is a good example. Anyway, for some reason I was looking for my friend [Lancelot], who I hadn’t seen in somewhere around a year (that bit is real, [Lancelot] got sent to reform school). I’m looking through the windows (which, in this strange world, have a sticker on them stating the names of all family members who reside therein), trying to find [Lancelot]. Then, after I’ve been searching for quite a while, a strange girl in jeans, a black hooded jacket, and green high-top sneakers with somewhat short reddish-brownish hair walks up behind me.
“Hey, um, are you looking for someone?” the girl asks.
“Um, yeah, I’m looking for [Lancelot],” I answer, getting up from my position squatting on the ground, where I’d been looking at a sticker located on a basement window (which is strange considering that I don’t think anyone at the trailer park {or anywhere close to here, for that matter} has a basement).
“Well, I think this place is arranged alphabetically, and we’re in the M section, L is over there,” she answered pointing to what was my right, and her left. Yes, in the conversation, the letter I was looking for was L. (Oh, speaking of letters, I would like to take this time to remind everyone that [M] and [Q] are Samecool’s letters, and not my Letters)
I looked at the window again, and sure enough, in the upper left corner was a large sticker labeled “M”, and thinking back on it, I realized that the sticker had always been there, and I just hadn’t noticed it. “Oh, thanks…” I mumbled, slightly embarrassed, to say the least. I got up and started walking in the direction that she had pointed.
“Wait,” the girl said, rushing after me, when she finally caught up, she started walking on my right side, “Mind if I come along?”
“Um… okay…”
“So, what’s your story?”
After the girl asked me that, the words just kinda flowed out of my mouth. I told her everything about [K] and [R] and I even told her the story of how I met [Lancelot] and why I was looking for him. Of course, given my mindset at the time, you can probably guess that the emphasis was placed on [K].
“Aww, that’s so sad…” the girl intoned.
“Eh, what about you?”
“Well, my name’s [Eurydice], and I’d really rather not say anything else, kinda painful…”
“Wait, I could’ve just said I don’t wanna tell you? Wish I’d known that…” It was true, I really didn’t wanna tell her about [K], but it felt a lot better than holding it in, anyway… even in the L row, we couldn’t find any trace of [Lancelot].
You know what, I don’t want to finish this. This is all you get.
