Live, Love, and Hate – by Orpheus
Week 84 pt 2 – Nowhere, part 2 (Halleluja)
(1/26/06, 9:06 AM, math class, same as always) It’s been a long time since a continuation. Hell, I think the only other time there was a part two was back when I was freaking out about Jay. Kinda funny, y’know, it was so horrible and life changing back then, but in retrospect it was trivial, and those were the good ol’ days. It was in that same time period that I first met Amy, well, actually closer to the episode “Lead Me Not Into Temptation”, which was really more about the introduction of C, whom I had met through a mutual friend, that friend being Amy. Shortly thereafter I stopped talking with Amy because I couldn’t stand her.
So quite a while later (either during the Storm or just before the episode “Amy’s Pussy”, not quite sure which), Samecool just out of nowhere asks “[Orpheus], who’s Amy?” (not exact, but serviceable). I honesty Had no clue what he was talking about. The only Amy I could think of was the Kroll character. Apparently, she’d used that list of just generally nice people I’d given her. Y’know, it’s kinda funny, I don’t think I’d have heard about it if she’d picked anyone else off the list, except maybe R. For some reason or another, she thought I was a girl. I spend a good amount of time these days wondering what things’d be like if we hadn’t corrected her. I kinda wish we hadn’t, but then I figure I’d have to tell her the truth eventually (“No, it’s stupid” “go ahead and ask” “alright, what’s your voice sound like?” not exact, but serviceable).
Anyway, point is... hell, I forgot my point. I tried calling her again last night. I’m pretty sure that when her mom went to go get her, I could hear them talking in the background. When she came back, she said Amy was, like, asleep or in the shower or something (can’t quite recall). Now, y’see, ordinarily, I might just assume that she really was just busy or something, but good ol’ little Amy tends to have her folks (“parentals” as Lisa would put it) say she can’t come to the phone when someone she doesn’t want to talk to calls. I could just be paranoid, but I doubt it. It shouldn’t surprise me, and it doesn’t too much, but I’ll be damned if it’s anywhere close to fun. (11:42 AM, p4 US History, rm505) Of course, from what I hear, she isn’t answering Nicole’s calls either...
Okay, now I remember what it was I was going to say when I started this, but I want to talk about robot wives some more instead. Samecool is right in that it’s like the rock question. Hoever this question requires much more thought. I suppose at the core of it is this: is an approximation of love close enough to the real thing? My answer to the rock question was no, but it doesn’t want to stop either. But what if the robot really does feel love?
