VENUS WARS
This one's pretty good. There are a few wierd parts about Venus Wars, but it is very enjoyable.
Venus wars is very action packed and fun at the same
time, and on top of that, there's some really impressive animation going on here too. The
climax is a little boring, it's got that thing when it seems like it should be over but
it's not. The start is good, it starts off with Hero (silly name) racing in a venus bike
GP thing and the reporter landing on venus to get some reports on the war which is going
on there. Anywayz, an alarm sounds and a loudspeaker comes on and a voice says that you
must reamain indoors for the next 10 hours. Hero is quite far from his house, but his
friend invites him into his uncle's posh house. However, the police come along, and
apparently they're not supposed to be there, and cowardishly, Hero's friend tells him to
answer it. When he answers, one
police officer goes for him, and the other goes inside. Hero kicks the crap
out of the police officer, but then the other one comes along and he runs away. After a
hard, painful escape, Hero, now very weak, goes to his girlfriend(who funnily looks EXACTLY
like my ex-girlfriend Steph), and she treats him. Later on, the story leads into Hero
being made to join the army because of his skill and his girlfriend going to a refugee
camp. Then along come the battles and stuff.
There's one bit which a thought was really stupid, when this guy's got a camera on his truck and the screen they're seeing is a real background and the anime cars are added on afterwards, and it looks stupid. There's a real background at the end too, there's a song playing and just a real life moving background for unnecessarily long before the ending.
The anime has a really good ending though. The reunion of Hero
and his girlfriend is really nice even though they don't hug or anything, the camera stops
on her running to him, smiling. The slow music really adds emothin to the ending. And
there's a bit that shows the reporter going back to Venus for her friends. The silly thing
is that after this in the jap version, (this is my guess, but it's pretty obvious) the
camera was slowly zooming out on the city whilst the credits went up. However, on the
English version The camera zooms out on the city still, with the music, but no credits,
then the credits go up on a blank screen in total silence. Not that it's that bad, it just
seems stupid to have the camera zooming out on the city for a rediculously long time
before the credits.
The dubbing isn't very good, but it'll do. This is a bad dub, but it's definitely no Megazone 23. It's acceptable.
Overall, Venus Wars is a great anime and there's a lot to enjoy. There are a few parts which are boring or annoying, but it's definitely worth watching. Actually, I don't have a cop myselfy, but I want one... Aagh! Gimmie a copy! I'll go get me one soon.
