SLAYERS
The Motion Picture

^ Slayers. Great stuff. Nice Box design, too.

WOW!! This anime is great! I'm impressed! AD Vision have made a damn good job of the dubbing too! For those of you who don't know, slayers is an anime series on US television. There are also 2 OAV videos, which I may buy. Fans of the TV show may not be familiar with some of this because it is based on the second season and OAV series of Slayers, so you may not recognise Lina's Sidekick/Rival, Nahga the Serpent.

^ Nahga's mostdistinct feature ^_^;

When compared to Nagha or any other sorceress, Lina Inverse is small. In more ways than one. Everyone knows that all sorceresses are very tall and have enormous breasts. Lina, however is the height of the average girl and has average breasts. Being a sorceress, poor old Lina get's the piss taken out of her size and breast size quite a bit. But she doesn't take no shit! Lina is very short tempered and does her fair share of beating up in this anime.

The only bad thing I have heard anyone say about this anime is that there isn't really any battles. There are battles, but they're all kinda 'spell battles', basically the two people or teams stand at a distance from each other and use spell after spell on each other. There's some parts when Lina is flipping and jumping around to avoid attacks and stuff like that, so there's plenty of action, but if you want the kind of battles where the characters make contact with each other, then maybe you should go for Phantom Quest or Sonic.
^ Looks like Lina's about to kill someone
...

This anime has a great storyline, the artwork really is something special and the dubbing - Nice one, AD Vision! This dub really is a good one! In fact, it's so good it doesn't even seem like a dub! The voices are so well suited to each character and the acting is so good that it seems that it was never Japanese in the first place! Lina's voice really suits her face, and Nagha's slight English accent goes well with her sorceress appearance. The voice of Lagos the Hypnotist is very well done, he sounds comical and professional. I laughed at the funy old lady who's voice is done by a man(Phil Ross) and when Joyrock appears in his true form for the first time, he has such an evil sounding voice, and it echoes, giving atmosphere. This dub is close to perfect, Nahga's laugh is very annoying, but I think it's supposed to be like that. And the voice of the true form of joyrock slowly gets less evil towards the end and starts to have a bit of a comical 'squeak' to it.

Slayers has a great soundtrack too. Because it's the Movie of Slayers, the background music is very Movie-like, meaning it's all played by an orchestra and fits what's going on. There's a lot of parts which, without the music, wouldn't sem half as good. During the credits, there are little animations and pictures, a few from during the movie and some new, to keep you interested, and Megumi Hayashibara's 'Midnight Blue' plays, and belive me, it's a great song.

As I always say, some people have different opinions to others, so if you think differently about this anime, feel free to talk about it on the message board.

Because I loved this anime so much and the artwork, animation and dubbing were so good, I'm going to give it a big fat 5 out of 5!!
