Explosion Array
Well, After seeing the Slayers Movie, I just had to see more of this great
anime, so I ordered the two available Slayers OAVs, and they both arrived at the same
time. Dragon Slave proved to be enjoyable, and so did this.
Slayers: Explosion Array is a special OAV Episode called Mirror, Mirror. It is like Dragon Slave, it has the same characters and the excellent artwork and animation and the same credits animation and song, but it is delivered slightly different. For example, there are a couple of parts when there'll be a song by Megumi Hayashibara playing to accompany a cool animation, and there's a cool intro (It can't really be called an Opening) at the start with the great song by Megumi called "Run All the Way".
The episode starts off nicely with Lina explaining the storyline and what's going on.
She explains thet there was once a magical device called the Shadow Reflector which is a
mirror which can create evil clones of whoever it reflects, and recently, the mirror had
been stolen by a sourcerer known as Lagin, and now everyone is after him. Lina and Nahga
decide to try and get him for the 200 gold coin reward. Once they get started, they fight
a pack of werewolves with the song "Touch Yourself" playing in the
background. Once they reach the dungeon, Lagin is there with the mirror and uses it on
Lina and Nahga, creating copies of them and Lina realises her true nightmare and gets into
one of her
moods... I don't want to give the reat away because it's cool to
be surprised by it.
The episode ends with another monologue from Lina, and somehow, the fact that it's all been lina telling the story gives this special episode quite a nice feel.
Although in some ways this isn't as good as Dragon Slave, in other ways it's better. I'm happy with it and got a lot of fun out of it. It's not an amazingly action packed episode, or an amazingly hilarous one, it's just a nice layed back Slayers episode, and some fun to get you used to the Slayers Special storyline(2 years Before Lina met gourry and the gang from the series).
Overall, this isn't anything wonderfully special, but fun to watch and a nice original episode. The video also contains some of the character designs and production info after the episode.
