Dragon Slave
I finally got some more Slayers stuff! I loved that movie so
much that I just had to see more. I turned to the Slayers OAVs which there are currently
only 2 available, and they were very enjoyable. ^_^ It was so great to see more of Lina
and Nahga.
The Slayers OAV named "Dragon Slave" contains two Slayers episodes. This follows the Slayers Movie and Slayers Special storyline, so Gourry and the characters from the other series (Which I haven't yet seen) are not with Lina yet, Lina is a little younger and is accompanied by Nahga the Serpent.(Slayers Movie fans will know her)
The first episode introduces you to an old man named Diol who has an evil scheme. He want's to create a Chimerra with the head of a Serpent, a Demon, and everyone's favourite sourceress! Lina isn't exactly enthusiastic. Now, since Diol doesn't get his way, he wants to get his own back on Lina and capture her, and use her without her permission. His cloning device is just the item he could use for this. With just one strand of someones hair he can create multiple clones of a person. He sets 10 clones on Lina. Lina has a plan figured out and is ready, until the clones reveal themselves... 10 clones of Nahga! Now, those of you who know Nahga will also know how annoying her laughing is... Wait until you hear 10 of them! Lina passes out at the sheer horror of all these Nahgas laughing and bouncing like crazy. The episode carries on as Lina and Nahga fight Diol and try to keep the 10 crazy Nahgas in order, and proves to be great fun, but I'll warn you of one thing, the 10 Nahgas laughing away gets VERY annoying, I notice some of my friends were holding their ears when they watched this with me. Nahga's theme song is played a few times in this, this music really suits Nahga, but half of the time it's drowned out by all the laughing.
Episode two is even better and even more funny. Lina and Nahga are picked
to train a young, rather pathetic, skinny little guy named Jeffrey to be a swordsman.
Jeffrey is so amazingly pathetic, and this episode turns out to be hilarious. Probably one
of the funniest anime episodes I've seen.
The dubbing's pretty damn good, I was expecting this from the fantastic AD Vision. Fans of the Slayers series will not be dissapionted by the dubbing, the acting is better than that in the series, and the voice actress who plays the younger Lina (Cynthea Martinez) is simply brilliant, and really gives Lina the same attitude as the older Lina from the series(Lisa Ortiz).
Although this doesn't have the continuing storyline development like the seires, these are pretty damn enjoyable episodes. The movie was great, and this was damn good too, so there will definitely be more slayers for me. I already have the "Explosion Array" OAV, and I'm gonna get my hands on the series, even though it's not out in UK, so look out for some import reviews soon! ^_^
