Hyperdoll
(Volume 1)

Now, I didn't particularly like this one. Just a little too childish for me. Remember, if you think differently, feel free to give your views on the message board.

I have one word to describe this anime, SILLY. Not crazy, nor fun, just plain silly. The thing is, it has a very childish feel to it. Even though it has a 12 rating, it feels like you're watching a little kiddie's show.

The story? Ack! -_-; Whoever wrote this storyline has taken something very strong! Here's the scoop - Mew and Mica aka The Hyperdolls are two girls from outer space(apparently) who are undercover as high school students. Akai is a guy who found out who they are and they threatened to kill him, but he somehow managed to escape (the flashback doesn't show how) and is trying to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else. Akai's friends have invited him to go swimming, but he can't swim! He still follows along, but won't go into the pool. Mew and Mica are there, and everyone is happy until suddenly, Kiragi-man(A giant, badly dubbed Jellyfish) comes out of the water and starts drinking it. He senses that someone has pee-ed in the water so he goes mad and tries to kill everyone. The Mew and Mica are just about to become the hyperdolls in front of everyone, but Akai just manages to stop them, but then loses his balance and goes straight into the water, and lands on top of Kiragi-man and defeats him(in a really stupid way). Then a man with a big dick shows up and congradulates him. Later on, Kiragi-man returns in the city center, and starts to drink all of the town's water supply, accompanied by Enago-man who just starts smashing the place up. akai consults the hyperdolls(who are busy eating and arguing) and they drag him along with them. Mew and Mica transform anto the hyperdolls(in a really stupid sequence) Akai manages to escape, leaving them to fight the two villains. I won't spoil the ending, not because it's good, just because I don't like to go into so much detail about a storyline, but this one is so wierd you can't really sum it all up.

Hyperdoll's good point is that all the characters are well drawn, have a very good shading and are very well animated. But when they transform, it shows them zooming up through space, completely nude, before transforming. Stupid idea, I'm sure you'll agree, but even more stupid is the way they've been drawn. they don't have any err... features ^_^; They have no nipples, and they're shaven down below. I'm not being a pervert, I just feel they should have either drawn them properly here, or just not put this part in at all.

Heh-heh. Some of the jokes in this are actually quite good. I laughed at the part when Kiragi-man senses that someone has pee-ed in the water, and I thought the little quarrel between Mew and Mica in the changing rooms at the start was funny too, but most of it is just(here comes that word again!) SILLY. For example - their boss is a small blob-thing who materialises from Pizzas!

The dub is not particularly good. Jonathan Charles did quite a good job of the ghost in Phantom Quest, but he does an awful job of Akai. Mew and Mica are okay, the green haired one could be better(I can't remember which one's which!). Mew & Mica's boss(the little blob-thing) has a really stupid voice. He sounds like you'd expect him to do if he was on a little kid's cartoon.

The Music? Rubbish. The intro music has been made English and sounds pretty crap. The credits music is a song called "Monster" sang by two little Japanese girl singers which is also crap.

Overall - Unless you really want an anime with a lot of slapstick and are able to put up with pure silliness for it then don't get it. If possible, rent it. It's okay to watch once.
