                           Wilmington Drama League
Delaware's oldest community theater, Wilmington Drama League, is a great place for new actors to get on stage. They have a regular season, a children's wing,  a one-act play festival, and occasionally a one-weekend fundraiser.
The Children's Wing is now called Chrysalis and consists of two plays a year and a one-act play festival. Chrysalis mainly casts students, but does cast adults from time to time. Their one-act play festival is a great chance to get on stage. They do up to eight plays in one day and then have an adjudicator critique the play. Many actors end up doing multiple roles.
WDL's main stage productions vary in cast size; however, most shows have a few small roles for beginning actors. WDL has a history of offering new actors their first roles.
Their one-act play festival is another chance for new actors and is part of the Delaware One-act Play Festival. The winning play from WDL gets to perform at the state one-act festival. The winning play then goes to a regional and even a national festival. It's also a chance to get some awards on your resume.
All auditions are held in a community room,  so you get to see other actors auditioning at the same time. This gives you a chance to see how other actors approach the same part. Click here to view WDL's casting policy.
