Picture Book

A contribution to international understanding and intercultural tolerance.

For use in pre and infant school.

Samba, 5 year old son of a Gambian father and German mother, was born and lives on the west coast of Africa in a country called The Gambia.

Omar, Samba's friend, has African parents.    

Anna is also Samba's friend. Her parents are European but live and work in The Gambia.

Samba's father is a musician and accompanies Samba and his friends on a musical adventure set  by the mighty River Gambia.

                    Sambas father plays the guitar. 

                        Omar plays the balafong. 

                          Anna plays the triangle. 

                           Samba plays the drum. 

                And you.......what are you playing?

Very soon, people around the riverside are drawn to the scene.

The fisherman in the dug out canoe. 

The palm wine tapper from the bush. 

The witch doctor under the sacred baobab tree.

The bush pig hunter. 

The children swimming in the river. 

The mermaid.

Last but not least, the wildlife of The Gambia venture closer and listen in.
Omar, Samba, Anna and friends are dancing and singing, and you the reader are called upon to participate.......

The picture book contains 18 A4 illustrated pages with short child orientated text. 
Features 10 high quality photographs by a professional German photographer, plus more available. 
A linguistically simple glossary containing African terms, recipes, and handy crafts. 
Further samples of illustrations by African and European artists are available. 
The Picture Book is prepared in both English and German.
