White
So I sat there in that room with the walls so white that my eyes were aching. I thought I was going to go blind. A cool wind began to
blow on my face. Struggling to focus my eyes on the source of the wind, I leaned forward a bit, I
guess just for the psychological effect. It didn't help, but it made me feel like I was concentrating harder. In fact, not only did
it not help, but that slight shift in position was just enough to disrupt my balance on the small, vinyl seat I was
perched on. Slowly and dramatically, I began falling through the bright white air. Strangely, I could still feel the cool breeze on
my face, directly in front of me even as I tumbled and turned in the air. Still trying to determine the source of the air, I didn't
notice the object in the path of my freefall until I struck it with my right leg. Oh, how it smarted! And the wonderful spin it sent
me into caused nearly every drop of blood in my body to collect in my head and extremities. My death-spin was eventually equalized
by another obstacle on the opposite side of the first. As I descended, I became aware of a color other than searing white and blood
red. Gradually, the walls were changing color. White, off-white, bone-white, eggshell--I saw every shade of white there ever was a
name for. Mezmerized by the complete spectrum of white I was witnessing, I was able to hold back the tears--until, gazing deep into
the hue, I finally saw light beige. I managed to pull myself together eventually. Then, through tear-blurred vision, I gathered up
all my paint samples, and walked out of Lowes, trying to remember where I parked my car.
