Farmer John Turns Vegetarian

Glorious bliss unfolds
As the cows rejoice,
And the pigs exult;
The Chant of the Council of Chickens
Can be heard 'round the world;
So is the day when Farmer John
Turns vegetarian.

No more beef;
No more pork;
No more poultry;
How now, brown cow,
Do the buttercups grow?
"Oh, so much sweeter since the day
That Farmer John turned vegetarian."

But gone are the cheerful meat-givers;
Gone, for Farmer John needed cash.
Whereas, if one has no need for meat,
Why does one need cows, pigs, and the Counsil
of Chickens?
Happy, chipper and blithe no more are they,
The day after Farmer John turned vegetarian.
