Holidays

Holidays, holidays, hum de hoo...Where to start? My family celebrates Christmas and all that junk, and of course my mother is completely psychotic about it. Obsessive-compulsive about the placement of every single ornament on the tree, and where the tree is, how tall it is, if it has any holes... I'm sending her off to live in the woods. She'll be happy there. My dad could probably care less, except for the lights. He's the guy who always has to have his christmas lights out first, and they have to look cool. Think Clark Griswold. I, personally, have taken to hiding out in my room (which I do anyway) and listening to my 'N Sync Home For Christmas CD, venturing out only to steal some cookies and candy canes. Last year, I lived for two weeks on nothing but candy canes and Ramen soup. Yes, that was the life.
But anyway, back to the holidays.
My mother enjoys listening to christmas music. Not MY music, mind you, but all that Burl Ives old crap, and things like that. I cannot stand it, they all sound funny. And I'm melting her Kenny G CDs. I swear.
She will undoubtedly watch A Christmas Story a million times over. She worships it. Now that my brothers are a bit older (4 and 6), she likes to put in Frosty the Snowman or Rudolph, and expect me to watch it. No thank you. The only movie of that sort that I will emerge from my room to enjoy is A Year Without A Santa Claus, and only so I can sing that song. "They call me Snow Miser, whatever I touch, starts to melt in my clutch (ba dum bum bum) I'm too much! Ba dum bum bum, baaaaadum, ba dum bum..." Ahem. Sorry. Got carried away. Ooh, and I must watch The Santa Clause, the Tim Allen movie which has forever mucked up my spelling of the fat guy's name. I keep wanting to add an "e" at the end.
I'm sure there's much more to it all than that, but I really don't pay attention. There's the thing where we get to open one present on Christmas Eve, but that only came about from lots of whining and begging on my part over the years. And then I only get to open the clothes so they can try to force me to wear them the next day. Bah.
BUT ANYWAY! Enough of all that crap! I'm hoping this page will have some recipies that my mom uses (COOKIES!), a day-by-day holiday schedule, some info on my favorite holiday activities, as well as music and movies, and...Candy canes. Yes. Lots of candy canes.
I just got an idea...one section of this site is going to be about the Icelandic Christmas, because it's so much fun! Thanks to my mom for the idea.
