YOUTH ADVICE CENTRE TO BE OFFICIALLY OPENED

A new one-stop information and advice shop for young people in Aldershot will be officially opened on Wednesday 27 February 2002.

The unit, which is operated by the Hampshire Youth Bureau charity and supported by the County Council's Youth Service, brings together a range of agencies which help disadvantaged youngsters.

Through the shop, young people can access advice on a range of issues including accommodation, training and education, employment and health. Counselling and mentoring services are also available, along with practical help on getting food, toiletries and bedding.

The facility, in Victoria Road, has been operating since last November and has already responded to more than 2,000 enquiries.

Hampshire County Council's Executive Member for Education, Councillor Don Allen, said: "The one-stop shop is an important facility, which helps young people to overcome barriers in their lives. The County Council is pleased to support its work and I am sure the unit will continue to deliver encouraging results."

The one-stop shop is due to be officially opened at 2pm on Wednesday 27 February by the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Charles Choudhary and Saffron, a well known champion of the homeless and lead singer with the group `Republica.'

Ends.
