The Caine’s lived in a big white colonial house in the suburbs. They were a normal big family, with five children. Grace and Steven were very traditional parents and were outstanding members of the community. Everyone liked the Caine’s.
Grace and Steven were also very traditional in that they spanked their children when they were out of line. You could hardly call it abuse. They only did what they thought was right in raising their children. Everyone in their community seemed to punish their children in that way. And Grace and Steven had had some rough times with their children.
Kaitlyn was the oldest. She had been a real wild child, but now that she was in college, she had calmed down quite a bit. Steven and Grace were concerned while she was growing up, but now they realized she was just a typical teenager. College, though, seemed to be agreeing with her, and she was on the straight and narrow path now.
Amanda, though, was now replacing Katie in the wild area. Manda, as the family called her, was 15, almost 16. She was into everything that she shouldn’t. Her parents were on top of her about school all the time. She was starting to hang around with the wrong crowd and get into things she shouldn’t. They had to keep a close eye on their daughter.
Christopher, who was 13, was a typical boy. He was the only boy in the family. It was sometimes difficult to stand out with 4 sisters, but he tried hard. Steven tried to give him lots of time on the weekends, so he didn’t feel left out. He knew it was hard for Chris to be around so many girls all the time. Chris was into sports and video games, and was not yet interested in dating. Grace was glad about that. Chris got into semi-trouble, nothing like his older sister; but Steven and Grace had put him over their laps more times than not.
Then there were the twins. Annabelle and Allison. They were 9. And they were the most innocent of all the kids. Grace and Steven sometimes thought maybe the twins came from the cabbage patch, because they were almost never in trouble. They were two good little girls who one day came to live at the Caine’s house. Not really, but it seemed that way. Anna and Allie, as the family called them, were very similar in many ways, but they each had their own personalities.
Annabelle loved Strawberry Shortcake, and the color pink. Everything she owned was pink. Allison loved Hello Kitty and the color purple. Grace sometimes was glad they didn’t like the same colors. It was the only way outsiders could tell the twins apart. They were identical.
Both girls loved rainbows, and Barbie’s and stickers. They had more stickers between them than some of the stationery stores in the area. The girls got 5 dollars a week allowance, and almost always spent it on stickers. It was all they lived for.
The twins were good students. They loved to read, and do their homework. Sometimes Allie would do a two-week project the day it was assigned, just because she loved to do work so much. Anna would wait, but it was always done by the deadline, and it always earned her an ‘excellent’.
Their bedroom was pink and purple and lined with books and stuffed animals. There was a giant mirror over one of the dressers with a rainbow over it. On Anna’s side of the room, Grace had helped her put up Strawberry Shortcake decals, and on Allie’s side, were some Hello Kitty ones.
It was Spring Break. The kids were all going stir crazy from being in the house all week. The weather had been terrible. Every time Grace planned a family outing, it would rain or the weather would just be too cold. Steven was working all week, so they tried to get out at night when he got home from work. Katie was home on vacation, and trying to get together with her friends from high school, so she wasn’t around much.
Chris had finally been invited to a friend’s house for a sleepover, so Grace thought to herself, ‘two down, 3 to go’. The twins were sitting in the living room waiting for their father to get home from work. Anna was reading a book, and Allie was just staring out the window. She had finished the latest Babysitters Club book and didn’t feel like starting another one. Grace was in the kitchen making dinner, when the phone rang.
“SHE WHAT?!” they heard their mother yell into the phone.
Anna jumped. Allie looked at Anna. Both twins shrugged.
“I see. Well I will be right there.” Grace slammed down the phone. She came into the living room. “Put your shoes and your jackets on. Mommy has to go pick up your sister.”
Allie and Anna put their shoes on right away. They looked at their mother for further explanation as they grabbed their coats. Finally Anna spoke, “What happened, Mommy?”
Grace sighed as she left a note for her husband. He would be returning home within the next 15 minutes and would wonder where everyone was. She finished the note, grabbed her purse and keys and threw on her jacket. “Come on, I’ll tell you in the car.”
The twins followed their mom out to the minivan, and climbed into the back seat. They buckled up and Grace backed out of the driveway. Anna and Allie looked at each other and then at their mom. They were still waiting for her to explain.
“Mommy?” Allie finally asked after about ten minutes of silence. “What’d Manda do?”
Grace let out a big sigh. “Girls, I just want to thank you for always being so well behaved. Don’t ever become a teenager.”
Both girls giggled. “Okay, Mommy,” Anna said. She spoke for both of them. Sometimes the twins said the same thing at the same time, so sometimes they didn’t bother both responding. “What did Manda do?” she repeated her twin’s question.
“Manda was caught getting a tattoo using fake I.D.” Gracie explained as she pulled into a parking spot at the mall.
The twins looked at each other. “Ewwww!” Anna exclaimed. “Tattoos are gross!”
“Yeah, yuck!” Allie said.
“Well, I’m glad you feel that way, girls. Come on; let’s go find your sister. I’m afraid Manda is in BIG trouble!” Grace said, holding her hand out for the twins.
Allie and Anna held hands, while Anna held on to her Mommy’s hand. They walked into the mall. The mall was packed with people. There were eggs and chicks and bunnies everywhere. Easter was in a few days, and people were busy running around the mall, buying presents and getting ready for the holiday.
“Oh, Mommy, look!” Anna exclaimed. “The EASTER BUNNY!”
Allie turned to where Anna was pointing. “Oh, Mommy, can we go see him? I wanna get a picture taken with him.”
Grace sighed. She had forgotten. She was going to take the twins to see him, but they hadn’t gotten around to it. She realized that would have been a great thing to do that day, when it rained. But it was too late now, and she had Manda to deal with.
“Not tonight, girls. Mommy will bring you back tomorrow or the next day. I promise!”
The girls were crestfallen, but they knew that if their mom said she’d bring them another day, then she would. She never broke her promises. They looked over their shoulders at the giant rabbit as their mom led them to the tattoo stand in the mall.
It was dingy in that store. The girls opted to wait outside for their mom and sister. “It’s creepy in there, right, sissy?” Allie asked. Anna nodded. “That man with the beard is scary looking.”
“BUT MOM!” Manda yelled, as Grace pulled her out of the store.
“Not another word, Amanda. We’ll talk about this at home with your father.” Grace turned to the twins. “Let’s go, girls!”
The ride home was quiet too. Manda sat up front with Grace, but no one said a word. Allie and Anna played the alphabet game, but after one round, even they got quiet.
“Your dad’s home already,” Grace told them. They all looked and saw their dad’s blue Honda in the driveway. Manda just sighed. She knew she was in big trouble. “When we go inside, I want all three of you to wash up. We’re going to have dinner right away; it’s late already.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Anna said. “Yes, Mommy.” Manda didn’t say anything.
The twins went into the house and gave their daddy a big hug. He smiled and hugged and kissed them both. When Manda walked in, Steven tried to hug her too but she walked right past him without doing anything or saying anything. He looked at his wife.
“Don’t ask. We’ll talk about it after dinner,” she said, kissing him on the cheek and accepting a big hug.
After everyone was washed up, they sat down to dinner. Anna and Allie chatted to their daddy about their day, even though they hadn’t done much. Grace and Steven talked about a few other things going on. Steven noticed that Manda hadn’t said a word, but he knew teenagers and knew better than to ask.
After dinner, the twins cleared the table. Grace stood up and pointed to Steven’s study. “Go!” she told Manda. Manda got up and went into her dad’s study. Her parents followed.
Allie and Anna went to watch TV. They hoped the discussion wouldn’t take too long. Their daddy had said that maybe tonight they could go somewhere. They didn’t even care where, just somewhere.
In the study, Grace explained to Steven why she had to go pick Manda up at the mall. “You WHAT?” he said to Manda. She just sat on the sofa and looked at her feet.
“It’s no big deal, Dad,” she said quietly.
“Oh, I’m afraid it is a VERY BIG deal, Amanda Marie. Where on earth did you get fake I.D.?”
“I dunno. Around.”
“That’s not a good enough answer, young lady,” Steven said. “Your mom and I want to know where you got it.”
“And how long you’ve had it and what else have you done with it?” Grace declared.
“Mommmm!” Manda exclaimed. “Gimme a break!”
Steven glared at Manda. “Don’t you talk to your mother that way, young lady! You are fifteen years old, not eighteen, and we did not give you permission to get a tattoo.”
“Awww, Dad, it’s not that big. And it’s not like it’s a snake or anything. It’s just a bear holding a balloon. See?” Manda lifted her pants leg and showed her father her ankle. It was only partly colored in, because Grace had come midway to take her home.
Steven sighed. “Manda, that is not acceptable. You are in very big trouble, little girl.”
“I’m not a little girl, Daddy!” she said a little too loudly.
“Go up to your room, Amanda!” Grace said sharply. “Your father and I have to talk.”
Manda all but slammed the door as she left her father’s study. She ran up to her room and lay on her bed. She knew what was coming, and she was not happy. It wasn’t like she was the only one of her friends to still be spanked, but still, it was so embarrassing. She only hoped it was her mom who punished her and not her dad. They both spanked pretty hard, but it was embarrassing for her dad to see her bare.
Allie and Anna smiled when the study door opened. They were so glad that the discussion was over. Now they could go somewhere. But when they saw Manda leave and the door close again, they were disappointed.
“Guess they’re not done yet,” Anna said.
“Guess not.” Allie folded her arms and sank into the big arm chair. “We’re not gonna get to do anything tonight. I’m so bored.”
“Me too,” Anna said, picking up her book again.
“I just want to go somewhere,” Allie said. She walked over to the window and looked out. “Hey, sissy, it stopped raining.”
“It did?” Anna asked, over the rim of her book. “Finally.”
Allie went over to the front door and opened it. She peeked out. “It feels kinda nice out. I wish we could go for a walk or something.” She looked at her sister and then back outside again. Then she turned and looked at the study door. It would be closed for a long time; that she knew.
Allie stared at Anna. Once she was into a book, there was almost no getting her to do anything else. But she would try. “Sissy?”
“Huh?” Anna said, not looking up.
“Wanna go for a walk with me?”
Anna closed her book now and looked at her twin. “What do you mean? Now?”
“Yeah.”
“Allie, it’s dark out. We can’t go outside now. Especially without Mommy and Daddy.”
Allie shrugged. She knew her sister was right; but she really wanted to go anyway. She sat down and put her shoes on. “I’m gonna go.” She grabbed her jacket, opened the door and walked out, pulling it closed behind her.
Anna was standing next to her in seconds. She was in her socks with no coat on. “Allie, where you going?”
“I dunno. Just out.” It was the most independent thing she had ever done. She stood on the sidewalk for a full minute trying to decide where to go. She had never gone out by herself at night before and had no idea what to do.
A minute later, Anna was standing next to her. Allie noticed she had put her shoes and coat on too. “Thought you didn’t wanna come?”
“I’m going with you,” Anna explained. Then she said, “Where are we going?”
“I dunno. The park? They have lights on at night. We could have a swinging race.”
“Okay,” Anna said. They started to walk down the block. The park was only a few blocks away.
As they walked, they talked. “After I finish this book, I’ll have all my books finished. I need more,” Anna explained.
“I just finished my last Babysitters Club book,” Allie offered. “Maybe you and I should trade our books.”
“Hey, that’s a good idea. And maybe tomorrow when we go to the mall to see the Easter bunny, we could stop by the bookstore.”
“Yeah, or maybe Daddy will take us to the library,” Allie suggested.
“I want to get a new Nancy Drew book,” Anna announced. “I love Nancy Drew…the way she always solves the mysteries.” Anna stopped. “Hey, Allie, wanna play detective?”
Allison stopped and looked at her sister. It was kind of mysterious the way they were outside while it was dark. She bet it would be lots of fun to try to solve a mystery. “Sure. But oh, we need a magnifying glass. We need it to find clues.” Allie wrinkled her brow.
They were almost to the park. Anna pointed. “Maybe that store sells them.”
They looked. It was a little convenience store right next to the park. Neither of the girls had ever really noticed it before. “Can’t help to look,” Allie said. She reached into her pocket. “I have two dollars saved from last week’s allowance.”
“Okay,” Anna said. “I don’t have any money with me.” She giggled. “I don’t even have any pockets.” Allie looked. Anna was wearing pink stretch pants. Pink, of course.
The twins walked into the store and started to look around. Allie saw the candy first thing. “Oh, I want some candy. Maybe if the magnifying glass isn’t too much, we can get some jelly beans.”
“Okay,” Anna said, still walking through the store. “Here they are!” She picked up a magnifying glass. It was rather big. Allie walked over and turned it over. The price said $5.00.
“That’s kinda expensive. And what are we gonna do with it after we play with it tonight?”
Anna shrugged. “I dunno. Maybe we could just borrow it?”
“Hey, that’s a good idea,” Allie said. She held it and looked up towards the front of the store. “Should we ask first?”
Anna thought. “I dunno. They might get mad. Let’s just bring it with us to the park. We can drop it back on our way home. That way they can’t say we had it too long. We just have to be real careful with it, sissy.”
“Okay,” Allie said. She put it into the pocket of her coat. “Let’s go get some candy. I think I have enough for each of us to get a small bag of jelly beans and a candy bar.”
The girls paid for the candy and started to walk out of the store. They really had no idea that what they were doing was wrong. That’s how naïve they were about things.
Meanwhile back at home, the study door finally opened. Steven and Grace came out and looked at each other. “I’ll find the twins and do something with them. Maybe it will get my mind off this for a while.”
“Okay, hon. I’ll go deal with our delinquent daughter. You don’t think the belt is too much, do you?”
“No,” Steven answered. “Definitely not. What she did was very wrong, and she has to learn from this.”
He stopped and kissed his wife’s cheek as she headed upstairs. Steven was surprised not to see the twins in the living room, so he went to check the den. When he didn’t find them there either, he got a strange feeling in his stomach. He ran up to the room they shared. No twins. Where could they be? He searched the whole upstairs. He knew his wife couldn’t have started spanking Manda yet, so he knocked.
Grace was surprised to see Steven standing outside Manda’s door when she opened it. She thought they had decided how best to handle their daughter. When she saw his face, she got really scared. “Hon, what’s wrong?”
“I can’t find Annabelle and Allison,” he explained.
“What do you mean?” Grace asked. “Aren’t they downstairs?”
“No. And they’re not in their room or in Chris or Katie’s room either. I checked.”
The two of them looked at Manda. “Do you know where the twins could be?” Grace asked. Manda shook her head. She sort of hoped this would distract her parents from spanking her, but also hoped her little sisters were all right.
“Maybe they’re in the basement, playing hide and seek,” Steven decided. “If they’re not there, I’ll check outside, although I can’t imagine they would leave the house. Not at this hour, and not by themselves.”
He started to leave, but Grace stopped him. She looked sick. “Don’t worry, hon, I’ll find them,” Steven assured her, giving her a quick hug and kiss. He closed the door behind him.
Grace knew she wouldn’t be able to rest til she knew her girls were safe, but she also knew she had a matter to take care of. She sighed and looked at Manda.
“Bare your bottom and lay over the pillow,” Grace instructed, pushing Manda’s pillow into the middle of her bed.
“Mommmm, pleeeaaase!” Manda cried. “I told you and Dad I was sorry.”
“Sorry? For what? For lying to me about where you would be this afternoon? Or for having a fake I.D. and using it? Or for getting a tattoo without permission? I’m afraid ‘I’m sorry’ just isn’t going to cut it, little girl,” Grace said, pointing.
Manda sighed. She sort of knew it wouldn’t work, but she had to try. She pushed down her jeans and stepped out of them, knowing that when her mom was finished, she wouldn’t want to wear them. She draped them over her desk chair. Then she looked at her mother.
“Bare, Amanda Marie,” Grace spoke.
Manda pushed her panties to her ankles and lay over her bed, over the pillow. She cringed. She didn’t know what her mother was going to spank her with, but in this position, she knew it couldn’t be good. If it was the hairbrush or paddle, she would have been over her mother’s lap.
Before Manda could decide, she heard a swooshing sound. Then the full impact of her dad’s belt came down hard on her bottom and she let out a surprised scream.
{Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!}
“Owwwwwww, Mommmmmmmmm!” Manda screamed. “That hurts!”
“Yes it does. And it hurts your father and I when you lie to us and try to deceive us. Maybe you’ll think twice before you try something like this again.”
{Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!} {Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!} That belt just kept raining down on Manda’s bottom. She tried to move but her mother kept finding the right spot. It seemed like Manda got a million whacks with it. She was finding it hard to keep her emotions in, and after about the tenth whack with the belt, she was sobbing like a baby and begging for forgiveness.
{Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!} {Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!}
“Owwwwwww, Mommmmmmmmyyyyyy!” she cried. She never called her mother ‘Mommy’ anymore. But she was reduced to a sobbing little girl. That belt hurt so much.
{Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!} {Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!} “You will NOT use fake I.D. little girl. You will NOT go places unless your father and I know where you are. You will certainly NOT get a tattoo. You know better! Daddy and I did not raise you to act this way, and we will NOT tolerate it, Amanda Marie.” {Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!} {Thwwwwwaaccck! Thwwwwwaacckkk!}
Manda was crying so hard; she couldn’t even speak. She wanted to say she was sorry and beg for forgiveness. But she couldn’t even make words come out of her mouth. This was the hardest spanking she had ever gotten in her entire life, and she decided then and there that she would never do anything to earn another one like it.
Grace put down the belt. She was spent. It hurt her to see her daughter sob like she was, but she knew it was something she had to do as a parent. Grace sat down on the desk chair for a while and just watched Manda cry.
Meanwhile back at the store, as the girls were walking out the door, an alarm went off. “What’s that, Allie?” Anna asked, scared.
“I dunno. But let’s get out of here.”
The two girls started to run down the street, toward the park. They ran smack dab into their father. “Dadddddddy!” Anna exclaimed. He was the last person she expected to see, and wasn’t sure whether to be delighted or terrified.
Steven grabbed both girls and pulled them tight to his chest. He hugged them very tight and kissed them. Then he pushed them gently away from him and checked them over. “Are you two okay? You’re not hurt, are you?”
Allie looked confused. “No, Daddy, of course not,” she remarked. “Why would we be?”
Anna looked at her daddy. He looked scared. “What’s wrong, Daddy? And how come you were at the park?” She couldn’t figure out why he’d be coming from that direction.
Steven took a few deep breaths. Then he looked at his daughters. “I have been searching for you. I was so worried. What are you two doing out here by yourselves at this hour of the night?”
Allie looked at her watch. “It’s only 7:15. It’s not that late,” she said. She wasn’t trying to be facetious. She was confused as to why her father was so upset.
Anna nudged Allie and whispered, “Daddy’s face is all red.”
Allie looked at her Daddy. “What’s the matter, Daddy?”
Just then the shop owner came running over. “There you two are!” he shouted. Both girls jumped.
“Who are you?” Steven asked the man.
“I run the convenience store over there,” he said pointing. “Are these your girls?”
Steven nodded. He looked at the twins with that ‘what did you do?’ look that they were not used to seeing.
“Well I believe they have something that belongs to me,” the man explained. “They bought some candy, but when they left, my alarm went off.”
Steven looked at the twins again. “Did you girls take something from the store without paying for it?” he questioned, not believing this was something he was asking Annabelle and Allison.
Anna looked at Allie. She put her hand in her pocket and pulled out the magnifying glass. “Just this,” she said. “We were just gonna borrow it.”
Steven sighed. He took the magnifying glass from his daughter and handed it to the man. The man looked skeptical. It seemed as if the little girl did not even know that what she had done was wrong. He had NEVER seen that before.
“Yeah, we were gonna play with it at the park, and then bring it back on our way home,” Anna supplied. “We were gonna play detective, like Nancy Drew.”
Allie nodded. She looked between her sister and the man and her daddy. Neither of the men looked thrilled, and Allie started to feel nervous. She whispered to Anna, “I’m getting little butterflies in my tummy, sissy.”
“Me too,” Anna said. She watched as her daddy talked quietly with the man. They were both gesturing with their hands. She knew grownups did that a lot when they talked.
Anna squeezed Allie’s hand. She wasn’t sure why she was feeling the way she was, but when her daddy and the man walked back over, neither looked too happy. She thought that maybe she and her sister might be in a bit of trouble. And they NEVER got into trouble!
Allie squeezed back. She was thinking the same thoughts.
Steven looked at the twins. “Girls, when you take something from a store without paying for it, it’s called stealing. And stealing is very bad.”
“Oh, we weren’t stealing, Daddy. We were just gonna borrow the magnifying glass,” Allie explained.
“Yeah, we were gonna bring it back. We told you that!” Anna added.
But their daddy shook his head from side to side. “No, girls, what you did was steal that magnifying glass. Even if you meant well, what you did was very wrong. Now apologize to the man. And do it right now!” he said, very sternly.
Allie was scared. That was a voice that their daddy usually reserved for their brother or older sisters. He had never had to use it much with her or Anna. She squeezed Anna’s hand tighter.
Anna burst into tears. Allie followed. Neither of them really understood that what they had done was really bad. They thought it was okay, and now their daddy was telling them differently. “I’m sorry!” Allie cried. “Me too,” sobbed Anna.
The man actually looked like he felt bad for them. Their father had already explained that they would be punished when they got home. “Well, all right. But I don’t want to see either of you in my store again, without an adult. Understand?”
Both girls nodded. The man watched them as they started walking home. Allie looked up at her daddy and his face was still red. “Are you angry with us, Daddy?” It was a question she had never had to ask before.
“Yes, Allison, a little. Not really angry, but extremely disappointed.”
Anna was still clutching Allie’s hand. Allie was holding her daddy’s hand. Anna spoke, “Daddy? Are we in trouble?”
Steven stopped and looked at Anna. “Yes, little lady. You’re both in very big trouble.”
“Oh,” was all she said. Allie wanted to ask something but was afraid. They walked the few blocks home in silence, the butterflies flying around both their tummies. When they got to the house, Steven opened the door. It was quiet and he wondered what was going on up in Manda’s room.
“Go upstairs and wash up for bed, and put on your pajamas. Both of you. I want you lying on your beds. I will be up to talk to you in a few minutes,” Steven said, running his hand over his face, as if he were washing without water.
“Uh yes, Daddy.” “Yes, sir.” Both twins ran upstairs to do as they were told.
Steven went to the kitchen to wash up the dinner dishes. He needed a few minutes to gather his thoughts and to calm down. He had never had to deal with the twins over something like this before, and he wanted to make sure he handled it well. He also knew he could not punish them while he was so upset.
After the kitchen was cleaned, he walked upstairs. He decided first to check on Amanda and let his wife know that the twins were home safe and sound. He knocked quietly on Manda’s door.
Grace opened it and hugged Steven. “Are the twins all right? Where were they?”
Steven nodded as he came into the room. Manda was sitting on a pillow wearing only a nightgown. Grace got back on the bed with her daughter and put her arm around her. Steven sat in the desk chair and looked at his wife and daughter.
“The twins are safe. I’d say they were fine, but they won’t be in a few minutes. I’m afraid I have to spank them both.”
Manda gasped. She had never heard her dad say that. “The twins are in trouble? What’d they do?” she asked.
Steven explained where he had found the girls and what they had done. Manda tried not to smile so her parents would see. She had been known to shoplift from time to time; she just didn’t expect to hear about the twins doing it.
Grace sighed. Then she looked at Manda and then back over at Steven. “Manda and I have been sitting here snuggling and talking. She’s grounded for three weeks and does not have permission to be at the mall without one of us for two months, until her 16th birthday, and then I said we’d see,” Grace explained.
Steven nodded. “Sounds good.” He looked at Manda. “Did you learn a lesson from this, young lady?” That was the main reason they believed in spanking; to make sure their children learned lessons.
“Yes, sir. I ‘m not going to use fake I.D. anymore. I promise.”
“And no more tattoos,” he stated. “Or god forbid, piercings.”
All three of them laughed. It was what Steven needed in order to get up and do what still had to be done. He went over to Manda and hugged her tight and kissed her cheek. “You know your mom and I love you very much, don’t you?”
Manda sniffled a little and nodded. “Yes, Daddy, I know. I love you both, too. And I’m sorry I disappointed you. I won’t let it happen again.”
Steven and Grace both smiled. It would be nice if they could believe that their teenage daughter would never again disappoint them. Ah, but in a perfect world! But for now, her promise to behave was enough.
Steven kissed Grace on the forehead. “Okay, I’m off to twin world. I’ll see you later.”
“Don’t be too hard on them, Daddy,” Manda pleaded. “They’re good kids.”
“I know, sweetie, but they have to learn. Just like you and your brother and sister do.” Steven opened and closed the door and headed for the twins’ room.
He walked in without knocking and sat on Anna’s bed. “Come here, Allison,” he said quietly.
Allie looked up at her daddy from her bed. She got up and went and sat next to her sister. The two of them instantly clutched each other’s hands again. They had been talking quietly while they washed up and agreed they had never seen their daddy look so upset with them before. They had a feeling they were going to be punished.
“Girls, what you did tonight was very wrong,” he began. “First of all, you went outside in the dark, alone.”
“We weren’t alone; we were with each other,” Anna said simply.
“That isn’t what I meant, Annabelle Leigh,” Steven exclaimed. “Mommy and Daddy didn’t know where you two were, and we were very worried. You two are not allowed to leave this house without a grownup. At any time. Is that understood?”
Both girls nodded. Steven realized maybe it was his and Grace’s fault. They had never actually given the girls that rule before, but then again they had never needed to.
“We’re sorry, Daddy,” Allie said. “It’s my fault. I just wanted to go somewhere, like for a walk. And Anna ended up coming with me.”
Steven turned and looked at Allie. To say he was surprised was an understatement. If he had had to guess, he would have thought this whole thing would have been Annabelle’s doing. She wasn’t sneaky, per se, but she was more likely to think of an adventure like this one.
“Well, you’re not to do it again, Allison Michelle. Understand?”
“Yes, sir.”
“And second, girls, taking that magnifying glass was wrong. I told you this outside the store. When you take things from somewhere without paying for them, it’s considered stealing. You could go to jail for that.”
Anna burst into tears again. “Daddy? You’re not gonna let them put us in jail, are you?”
“No, princess, of course not,” Steven said. “No one’s going to jail. You returned the magnifier and apologized to the man. That’s all that’s going to happen, as far as that is concerned. I just want you to understand that what you did was wrong.”
Anna nodded. Allie nodded too, but then the burning question slipped out. She couldn’t hold it in any longer. “Daddy? Are we gonna be punished?”
“Yes, Allison, you are. Both of you are getting spankings. I want you to learn that what you did tonight was wrong.”
Anna looked at Allie and Allie looked at Anna. They could count on one hand the number of spankings they’d gotten in the past 9 years. They’d never been scared before, but this time seemed much worse. Allie started to cry.
“I’m sorry, Daddy. Please don’t spank us!” Allie cried.
“I’m sorry, too, Allison,” Steven said. “But you’re both getting one. Now go lay on your bed while I spank your sister, and then it will be your turn.”
Allie squeezed Anna’s hand one more time before getting up and returning to her bed. She lay on it and pressed her face into the pillow. She cried the whole time her daddy spanked her sister. She didn’t want to hear, but she did. And she was afraid for her own bottom, too.
Steven looked at Anna. Suddenly she looked younger than nine years old. She had a gentle look on her face as if she couldn’t hurt a fly. He tried to get that image out of his head. He knew this had to be done, and waiting any longer, was not going to help.
He lifted Anna up off her bed and stood her in front of him. With both hands, he pushed down her pajama bottoms and her panties, and then put her over his lap. She didn’t say a word. He lifted his hand and brought it down on her bare bottom over and over again.
{Smack! Smack!} {Smack! Smack!} {Smack! Smack!}
“Owwwwwwww!” Anna cried. “Owwwwwwww, Daddddy, that hurttttttts!”
{Smack! Smack!} “It’s supposed {Smack! Smack!} to hurt, {Smack! Smack!} Annabelle Leigh. {Smack! Smack!} So you don’t {Smack! Smack!} do anything {Smack! Smack!} like this {Smack! Smack!} again, little girl.” {Smack! Smack!}
Anna was wiggling over her daddy’s lap. She couldn’t stand that he was smacking her bottom over and over again. She cried and she cried. Allie tried to pull the pillow over her ears so she wouldn’t have to hear the awful smacks and the sound of her sister crying out.
{Smack! Smack!} “Don’t you EVER {Smack! Smack!} let me catch you {Smack! Smack!} stealing again, young lady.” {Smack! Smack!}
“I won’ttttttt, Daddddddddy!” Anna cried.
{Smack! Smack!} “And don’t you EVER {Smack! Smack!} leave the house {Smack! Smack!} without telling me or Mommy {Smack! Smack!} where you’re going.” {Smack! Smack!} {Smack! Smack!}
Anna cried and cried. She stopped trying to wiggle off her daddy’s lap. She just held onto his legs and sobbed. She didn’t even notice that her daddy had stopped the spanking. He pulled her up and sat her on her knees on his lap. She put her arms around his neck and squeezed really tight, sobbing on his shoulder.
“There, there, sweetie, it’s all over. Daddy forgives you,” he said, rubbing her back and her bottom.
Anna sniffled, still crying. Steven took a tissue and wiped her eyes and made her blow her nose. He pretended to lick her tears. “YUM SALT!” he said. Anna giggled, but just a little. He stood up and laid her on her bed. “Okay, you lay here while I punish your sister,” he told her.
Steven walked across to Allie’s bed and sat down on it. He lifted her up and put her in front of him. She looked at him with the puppy dog eyes. “I’m really sorry we were bad, Daddy,” she said sadly.
“Oh, baby, you and your sister are not bad,” he explained. “What you did tonight; your actions, were naughty. Do you understand? You and Anna made a bad choice to leave the house by yourselves. And to take that magnifier. But Mommy and Daddy know that you may do things like this sometimes, and that’s how you learn. And one way to teach you not to do it is to spank you. Okay?”
Allie nodded. She had already cried so many tears; she didn’t think she had any more left. But when her daddy pushed down her pajama bottoms and panties, and put her over his lap and started to spank her, more tears came flowing out.
{Smack! Smack!} {Smack! Smack!} {Smack! Smack!} {Smack! Smack!}
“Owwwwwwww!” Allie cried.
{Smack! Smack!} “No leaving the house {Smack! Smack!} without permission, {Smack! Smack!} little girl.” {Smack! Smack!}
“Owwwww, yessir!”
{Smack! Smack!} “And we do not {Smack! Smack!} take things {Smack! Smack!} without paying for them.” {Smack! Smack!}
“I won’t anymore. I promissssse!” Allie squealed. She would have promised the world if her daddy would just stop spanking her.
{Smack! Smack!} “I hope {Smack! Smack!} I’ll never have to {Smack! Smack!} have this discussion with you again, young lady.” {Smack! Smack!}
“No, Daddy, NEVER!” Allie screamed.
Steven stopped spanking. He rubbed her tushie as she lay there crying. She hiccupped and tried to catch her breath. Then he pulled her up onto his lap as he had done with Anna. She also put her arms around his neck and sobbed into his chest. He kissed her tears away. “YUM SALT!” he said. It was one of his catch phrases.
Allie tried to smile, but she couldn’t stop crying. She thought she had never cried so much in her entire life. “There, there, baby, it’s all over. You’re forgiven. I love you so much.”
“I love you too, Daddy.”
Steven stood up and carried Allie over to Anna’s bed. He pulled Anna onto his lap also and cuddled both his girls. “I love you both so much. I would have been very sad if anything had happened to you two tonight. Mommy and I were very worried when we couldn’t find you.”
“Yes, we were,” Grace said from the doorway. The twins looked up at their mommy, as she came into the room. She sat down on Anna’s bed with them.
Anna looked at her. “I’m sorry, Mommy. We didn’t realize. Honest.”
“I know, princess. But I’m sure you understand better now after Daddy spanked you, don’t you?” Grace asked.
Both twins nodded. Steven shifted Allie onto Grace’s lap and they had a group hug for a long time. Both girls slept on their tummies that night.
And the next day, Steven took off work and took the whole family to the mall. Even Manda. They all got their picture taken with the Easter Bunny.
The end.
