never be forgotten.)

Melissa parked the
car across the street. She got out
slowly. After she opened the trunk and
removed the stroller, she gently lifted the carrier and popped it into place. Melissa looked down at the baby and
smiled. She hadn’t even woken up.
Melissa couldn’t
believe she was a grownup. Grown up, and
married, and now with a baby. She looked
across the street at the old house and smiled.
She had so many memories of this house.
Pushing the
stroller, she walked across the street and stood staring. The people that lived here wouldn’t be home
now; it was the middle of the day. They
would be at work. Melissa was off now,
staying home with the baby. She loved
it; being a mommy really suited her. Of
course, she had had one of the greatest examples.
Christine had been
the best mommy in the world. Sure she
had been strict, but when you’re raising five kids, you had to be. Melissa sat on the stoop and thought back to
all the fun she and her brothers and sisters had had
growing up. Baking cookies with Mommy;
doing work in the yard with Daddy.
Daddy.
David had been the best daddy in the world. Still was.
Melissa smiled thinking of them down in sunny Florida. As soon as their last kid was out of the
house, they sold it and bought a one-way ticket to Florida. David had finally retired last year after
Katie graduated from college.
Katie. Missy’s favorite sister. Not that she didn’t love
Debbie; of course she did. But
Missy and Katie just connected; had since the first time Missy saw Katie. They were still close. Katie had just moved out to Colorado with her
boyfriend. Missy knew they were planning
on getting married as soon as they had saved enough money.
Debbie was single
and enjoying every minute of it. She was
in New York, trying to make it big on Broadway.
Oh, could she act! Always could,
Missy thought. She laughed out loud now
at the scrapes Debbie was always getting into; always getting them all into.
Billy was a
carpenter. He was married now, raising
four boys. Four boys. Can you imagine? But he had learned from the best, too, and
was doing a great job. Missy had just
seen her nephews a few weeks before, and they were wonderful.
Joey was very
successful. He worked in Pennsylvania as
an attorney. He was married, now,
too. He and his wife had two little
girls, Kimmie and Beth. They were four and seven. The same ages that Missy and Katie had been
all those years ago. Missy thought back,
remembering.
~~~~~~~~~
Before she knew
it, Missy was seven again. She and Katie
were playing in the playroom. Mommy was
out in the yard with Debbie and the boys.
Daddy was away. Katie was missing
him something awful, and so was Missy.
They sat at the little table in the playroom and thought up ways to see
Daddy again.
“I want Daddy
now!” Katie said sadly.
“Mommy said he’ll
be home tomorrow; that’s not too bad,” Missy said.
“UH HUH, it’s too
far away, Missy. I want him NOW!” she
screamed.
“But he’s all the
way in Michigan. I don’t even know where
that is.”
“We could take a
bus. Da bus driver’d know where he is,” Katie spoke up.
“Yeah, he would
know,” Missy said, looking across the table at her little sister. “But how would we get to the bus?”
The two girls
thought and thought for a long time.
“Wait, I know,” Missy said. “There’s
a bus on the corner that goes to the mall.
We could take that one.”
“An’ we’d get to
Daddy?” Katie asked.
Missy shrugged her
shoulders. “I dunno;
maybe. We can try. Come on, let’s go!” she said.
“Yeah!” Katie shouted.
Both girls ran to
their room. They took their bookbags and threw a few toys in, along with a nightgown
and a pair of panties.
They ran
downstairs, peeked into the backyard and saw their mommy working in the
garden. They saw Debbie and Joey pulling
up weeds, and Billy was raking leaves.
Missy smiled at
her lil sis as they walked to the front door. They opened it up and stepped outside. Katie stopped.
“What’s wrong,
sis?” Missy asked.
“We not sposed to leave da yard,
Missy. We gonna
get to trouble.”
“Yeah, but we’re
going to get Daddy. He won’t be mad when
we get there.”
“Okay,” Katie
said, taking Missy’s hand. The two girls
walked to the corner.
At the same time
as the girls left the house, Joey had gone into the house to get a drink. He saw the front door open and went to
investigate. He saw his sisters leave
the yard. He didn’t know if he’d have
time to go back and tell Mommy and still catch up with them or not, so he
decided to follow them without telling his mother.
Joey caught up
with his sisters when they got to the corner.
“Missy!
Katie! What are you two doing?”
Both girls
jumped. Missy turned and saw her
brother. “Joey, go home, we’re fine!”
Missy yelled.
“What do you mean?
What do you think you’re doing? You know
you’re not supposed to go nowhere without telling anyone,” he said.
Katie
giggled. “You sound like Mommy.”
“Well, Mommy will
not be happy either, Katie. Missy, you
should know better, bringing Katie here.
You’re both gonna be in big trouble. What are you doing now?”
Missy looked at
Katie and then back at her brother.
“We’re going to find Daddy.”
Joey was
confused. “How’re you gonna do that? Daddy’s on a business trip to Michigan.”
“We’s gonna take da bus to Mishagin,” Katie
explained.
“What bus?” Joey
asked.
Just then, the A47
bus that went to the mall pulled up at the curb. Missy and Katie started to walk for it, but
Joey put out his hand and stopped them.
“Missy, you
can’t,” he expressed. “Besides this bus
goes to the mall, not Michigan.”
“It not take us to Daddy?” Katie asked, starting to cry.
“There they are!”
Joey, Missy and
Katie jumped. It was Daddy’s voice. But how could they hear Daddy? Daddy was in
Michigan. All three turned to the sound
of the voice; Daddy and Billy were across the street.
“Daddddddddddddddddddyyyyyyyyyyyyy!” Katie yelled, starting to go to him. She stepped right off the curb and into the
street before Missy or Joey could stop her.
Daddy ran across
the street and picked her up quickly. He
smacker her rear once very sharply and said, “NO!”
Katie started to
cry and looked up at her daddy. She had
missed him so much and had wanted to see him so badly, that she had risked
leaving the yard to take a bus, and now that he was here, he had smacked
her. Katie didn’t know what to do.
David picked her
up then and held her close to him. “My
god, Kaitlyn, you scared Daddy half to death!”
Katie continued to
cry. She figured she was in big trouble,
but wasn’t sure for what. Missy walked
over to Daddy then, with Joey close behind.
David hugged both of them and then released them. He still held Katie in his arms.
“You three have
some explaining to do,” he said. “Let’s
go home. Your mother’s worried sick.”
The five of them
walked home in silence. It wasn’t a very
far walk, but to Missy it seemed endless.
She knew that some kind of punishment awaited her when she got home.
“Oh, thank god!”
Christine said when she saw David round the corner with all the kids. She ran to the sidewalk and hugged each
child. She took Katie out of David’s
arms and hugged her tight. “Let’s go
inside.”
Billy took Debbie
up to the playroom. They were the only
ones not in trouble at the moment. David
sat down on the couch with Christine, while Joey, Missy, and Katie stood in
front of them.
“Well, who’s going
to start talking?” Christine asked.
Joey spoke
up. “Mommy, when I came in to get a
drink of water, I saw the front door open.
Then I went out front and saw Missy and Katie walking down the
sidewalk. I knew if I went to get you
that when we got back, they would be gone, so I just followed them. I didn’t know what else to do.” Joey stopped talking and looked at his
parents.
David and
Christine exchanged a look. “Well, son,
that probably was best,” Daddy said. He
looked at his wife. “There really wasn’t
anything else he could have done. If he
had gone to tell you, they could have gone anywhere.”
Christine
nodded. “All right, Joey, we won’t
punish you for this. We’re glad you
found your sisters.” She turned to Missy
then. “All right, young lady, you have a
lot of explaining to do. What were you
thinking of, leaving the house and the yard without permission?”
“And what were you
doing at the bus stop, Melissa Erin?” David asked.
“The
bus stop?! That’s where they were?”
David nodded. Missy looked at Katie and then up at both her
parents. She wasn’t sure what to
say.
Katie spoke
up. “We was gonna
find you, Daddy. We was gonna take da bus to Mishagin.”
Christine
sighed. “Kaitlyn,
didn’t Mommy tell you that Daddy would be home tomorrow?”
Katie just
nodded. “But we misseded him today, Mommy!”
“Well, then it’s a
good thing I came home a day early, isn’t it?” David asked, chuckling
lightly. Christine just gave him a look.
Missy and Katie
nodded. “I’m sorry we left the yard,
Daddy. We just wanted to see you so
bad.”
“Well, Melissa,
now you’re going to see me up in your room.
Go on now; I will be right up.”
Missy bit her lip
and said, “Yes, sir.” She knew that
Daddy was going to spank her. There was
no point in asking if that was what was going to happen.
She stood up and
walked slowly up the stairs. She
unpacked her bookbag and Katie’s. Daddy
came in a minute later, holding Katie.
He deposited her down on the bed.
“I know you girls
missed me, but what you did was very naughty.
Do you understand why?” David asked the two girls gently.
Both girls
nodded. “We leaved da
yard wifout telling Mommy.”
“Yes, you did. And why shouldn’t you do that?”
“Cuz you don’t know where we are,
and something bad could happen to us,” Missy said.
“Yes, Melissa,
that’s correct. You seem to know the
rule very well, but when it comes down to following it, you have a
problem. I’m going to spank both of you
and you will be grounded the rest of the weekend. Is that understood?”
“Yes, sir,” Katie
said sadly. “Yes, Daddy,” Missy replied.
“Okay, Melissa,
I’m going to take Katie into mine and Mommy’s room and then I will be back to
speak to you,” David said, standing up.
He lifted Katie up and carried her into his bedroom.
Once there, he sat
down on his bed and put Katie on the floor in front of him. He reached down and pulled the little girl’s
pants and panties down. “I don’t like to
have to punish you my first day back, sweetheart, but what you and your sister
did was very naughty. Do you
understand?”
“Yes, Daddy, is okay,” she said.
“I know we was bad.”
David paused. “No, sweetie, you weren’t bad. But what you did was wrong. And that’s why Daddy is here, to teach you
the difference between right and wrong.
Got it?”
Katie nodded. Then David lifted her over his lap and
started to spank her. He didn’t need to
alternate cheeks, as his hand fit her entire bottom. He smacked it about two dozen times, giving a
few extra swats to her sitspot. She wiggled a little, but mostly took her
spanking like a big girl. She knew it
would all be over soon and that she would be his sweet little teddybear again.
When he was
finished, he raised her pants and panties and pulled her up into his lap. He held her tight to him and rubbed her
bottom. “Daddy loves you, sweetheart,
and I don’t want anything to happen to you ever. When you walked off that curb, my heart just
about fell out. That was very dangerous,
Kaitlyn Rose.
Please promise Daddy you won’t ever do that again.”
“I
not, Daddy, I pwomise. I
not mean to scare you,” Katie said, crying.
“Oh, sweetie, it’s
okay, now. Everything is all okay.”
David held Katie
for a long time until she fell asleep in his arms. Then he laid her down on his bed and tucked
the blankets up around her. He watched
her sleeping peacefully as he headed down the hall, back to Missy.
“Melissa?”
Missy turned
around. She had been facing the
wall. As she turned, there were tears
sliding down her face. “Oh, baby!” David
said, coming over to her. Missy put her
head in her daddy’s lap and cried, while he rubbed her back.
“I’m sorry,
Daddy. What I did and let Katie do was
so stupid and dangerous. Will you ever
forgive me?”
“Of course,
baby. But you know what must happen
first, don’t you?”
Missy nodded. “Yes, sir,” she said, standing up. She stood in front of her daddy and said,
“I’m ready.”
David looked down
at her. “Tell me why you’re getting this
spanking, Melissa Erin.”
“Cuz I left the house and the yard without permission, and
walked to the bus stop. And cuz I took Katie with me.
And we could have gotten hurt or taken.”
“Yes, that’s
right.”
“I won’t ever do it
again, Daddy.”
“I hope not,
Melissa. You worried Mommy half to
death. And when I came home and we
couldn’t find you girls and Joey, we were so scared.”
Missy nodded. David put her over his lap, pulling down her
pants and panties at the same time. He
raised his hand and started to spank her bottom real hard. He alternated cheeks as he lectured.
“You will NEVER
{SMACK!} {SMACK!} leave the
house {SMACK!} {SMACK!} or
the yard {SMACK!} {SMACK!} without
permission again. {SMACK!}
{SMACK!} It is against our rules {SMACK!} {SMACK!} and very dangerous.”
The spanking went
on and on. Missy must have gotten a
hundred spanks...or at least that’s what it felt like to her. Finally, her daddy was slowing down.
{SMACK!} {SMACK!} “I hope
you are learning {SMACK!} {SMACK!} a
good lesson, young lady!” {SMACK!} {SMACK!}
“Owwww, yes, sir, I ammmmmmm!” Missy cried, trying to wiggle away from
Daddy’s smacks.
But David was
quick and he held her down firmly as he finished up the spanking. He delivered five quick hard smacks to her
tender sitspot.
{SMACK!} {SMACK!} {SMACK!} {SMACK!} {SMACK!}
Then he helped her
up. Missy cried into her daddy’s
chest. “I’m so sorry, Daddy. Don’t hate me!”
“Oh, Missy, Daddy
could never hate you. What you did was wrong
and it was dangerous. But you’ve been
punished and now you’re forgiven. I love
you very much, baby.”
“Forever,
Daddy?”
“Forever and
ever,” David said, reassuring her.
Missy smiled. All was right again in her world. She was in her Daddy’s arms and she was safe
and loved.
~~~~~~~~~
Then she heard
crying. She couldn’t figure out who was
crying. It sounded too young to be
Katie. After all, Katie was four.
“Excuse me, ma’am,
can I help you?” a voice asked.
“What? Huh?”
Melissa looked up. There was a strange
older man standing on her front stoop.
“Um, you’re
sitting in front of my house,” the man said, “and I was wondering if there was
something I can help you with. By the
way, your baby is crying.”
Melissa jumped
up. Ohmigod,
she had forgotten where she was.
Forgotten she was a grown up now.
She reached down and picked the baby up and held her tight to her
chest.
She looked at the
man. “I, uh, well,” Melissa tried. Then she smiled. “I used to be Melissa Ross. I used to live here.”
“Ohhhh!” the man said, putting out his hand. The two shook. “Well the last time I saw you, you were knee
high to a grasshopper.”
“Yeah,” Melissa
said laughing. “I was in the
neighborhood and thought I’d drop by to see the old house. I guess I got caught up in my daydream,” she
stated, putting the baby back down in the carrier.
“Yeah, it’s always
fun to look back,” the man said. “But
what’s really great is what’s ahead.”
Missy looked at
the man, and then smiled down at the baby.
“I think you’re right. Thank
you!” she said.
Melissa pushed the
stroller back to the car. The future. That’s
definitely what was important now.
The
end.
