Chanukah Presents...a “Little One” story (M/f)
(c) 2000 by Sampast and Don A. Landhill
(Author’s Note: Sorry this wasn’t
out in time for Chanukah (pronounced Ha-noo-ka) itself, but we hope everyone
had a nice holiday season. Happy New
Year...and enjoy the story. Comments
are always welcome.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was a week or so before the holidays. School had just let out. I was playing in my yard with Danny. He was okay, as boys went. He lived around the corner, and was in my class at school. He was the type of friend you had when no one else was around. I know that sounds terrible, but it’s true. If my other friends couldn’t play, I could always play with Danny.
He and I got along pretty well. Sometimes we fought, but then again, we were both seven years old. But sometimes our fights went beyond just squabbling. He could be mad at me or me at him and the other might not know it. For example, the last time I played at his house, we were drinking kool-aid by the piano. I had made him laugh and he spilled his into the keys. His mom was so mad.
I think Danny got upset because only he got in trouble that day. I didn’t think he would ever plot to get me in trouble, just to get me back. But I would soon find out differently.
“Hey, Danny, I can't wait til
Chanukah. I'm getting the best presents,” I said proudly.
“You're
guessing; you don't know what you're getting, any more than I do. They
never tell you ahead of time, I know that,” he taunted.
“Yeah, but *I* know.”
Danny smirked. “Yeah, sure you do. Tell me another one.”
“Uh,
huh, I just know. My parents are great, and
besides I told them and showed them what I wanted so I bet they got me
everything,” I said, trying to beat around the bush.
“Probably,
sure, but you don't know. Besides, they never get *all* the stuff ya ask
for; they always think of something better,” he responded.
“Nope, I know for a fact that
they got me good stuff. I'll tell you if you promise not to tell,” I
said, leaning close.
Danny leaned in close to me and I
whispered, “I saw my presents...before Mommy wrapped them.”
Danny was shocked. His mouth opened wide and I just smiled, so
proud of myself.
“Really?” he said.
“How’d you manage that? My parents always keep them in the closet, on a
high shelf.”
“Mine
don’t. I was in the guest room, looking
for something, and I saw them at the bottom of the closet in there.”
“Yeah?
Are you allowed to be in there?” he asked.
I
shrugged. I really didn’t know, so I
didn’t want to tell Danny one way or the other. I told him the things I got, and he couldn’t believe it. Then soon after I had to go in for supper,
so I told him I’d see him around.
The
next day, while I was up in my room, my so-called friend Danny paid Daddy a visit. I found all this out later.
~~~~~~~~
When
the doorbell rang, Daddy opened the door.
When he saw Danny, he said, “Well, hello there, Danny. Are you here to see Sammie?”
“No, we played yesterday, Mr.
Leonard. I came to tell you something
important. But I don't know if I should, cuz it'll get Sammie in
trouble,” he admitted.
Daddy
looked down at Danny and said, “Well, is it something that I should know about,
Danny? It is good not to want to get your friends in trouble, but if
Samantha has done something wrong, I may need to know to help her avoid a worse
problem later.”
Danny looked up at Daddy. “Well, I'm not sure, Mr. Leonard. He bit his lip and thought about it for a minute. “Hmmm, I guess I better tell you. You
see, Sammie unwrapped her Chanukah presents and looked at them, and then
wrapped them up again.”
Daddy looked at my friend in
amazement. “She did? I'm surprised; she
isn't usually sneaky like that. I will definitely have to talk to her
about this.” He paused. “She told
you about this, Danny?”
“Oh,
yes, sir.
We was talking about Chanukah starting in a few days and she was
bragging that she got great presents. I didn't believe her til she told
me she saw them and told me what they were.”
“Thank you, Danny. You'd better run along; I
need to talk to Samantha about this. I'm sure that I will see you another
time.”
“Uh,
yes, sir,” Danny said, sort of smiling as he walked away. Boys can be so dumb.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I
was up in my room when Daddy called up to me, “Samantha, would you come here
please?"
I
ran down and saw Daddy sitting on the living room couch. “Yeah,
Daddy?”
“Samantha,
Chanukah is coming soon. You know that,
right?”
I
nodded. “Uh huh, I can't wait. Me and Danny were just talking about
it the other day.”
“I
see. Well, you know how we like your
presents to be a surprise, right?”
I
wondered if Daddy could possibly know.
I started to turn away. Nah, how
could he! I turned back. “Uh huh,
Daddy, so?”
“Samantha, I'm not going to beat around the bush. Did you unwrap your presents to see what
they were ahead of time?”
I
looked at Daddy shocked. “No, of course not, Daddy.
I would never do that.”
“Are
you sure, Samantha? Very sure?” he asked, almost like he didn’t believe me.
I
nodded emphatically. “Why would you ask
that, Daddy?”
“Well,
Samantha, come with me,” he said.
Daddy
led me over to my Chanukah presents, which were sitting out by the
fireplace. He showed me how some of
them had torn paper, and others were wrapped all kinda funny, like a little kid
did it.
“You
see this, Samantha? Now tell the truth, you unwrapped them to take a look,
didn't you?”
“I
see it, Daddy, but I didn’t do it,” I said.
“Honest,” I added. “I don’t know
that that is a lego set. Ooops.” I covered my mouth quickly.
Daddy just stared at me. “You don't know, do you?
Oops indeed. You are in big trouble, young lady. Not just for
unwrapping your presents, but for lying to me.
You are going to be punished, right now.”
Before
I had a chance to think about what was happening, Daddy grabbed my ear and
pulled me upstairs to the bathroom. It
hurt and I couldn’t even think straight.
“Owwww, DADDDDY! But I didn't open them, honest!” I said.
I was afraid to tell Daddy that I
saw my presents before they were wrapped.
I’m not sure why. Surely he
wouldn’t be mad about that. But then
again, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to be in the guest room. Oh, I didn’t know what to do. I would just have to try to get out of this
punishment.
“Samantha
Karen, you might as well stop lying; it won't help you,” Daddy said, as we
reached the bathroom. He made me sit
down as he reached for the soap.
“DADDDDY, nooooo! Waaaaaaah, I didn't lie,” I tried.
“I didn't open themmmm, I just guessed is all; it looked like a lego box!”
I whined, as Daddy stuck the soap into my mouth.
“I see you need an extra long soaping this time.
Now hold it until I say you may take it out,” Daddy said.
I couldn’t believe this was
happening. My own Daddy didn’t believe
me. Then again, would I believe
me? After all, I did know it was
legos. I thought about this as I waited
for him to take the soap out.
“Samantha Karen, I'm surprised at you. Sneaking around to look at your presents,
then lying about it to me, and keeping up the lie like this. You have acted in a very naughty way this
time,” Daddy scolded.
I
was crying hysterically and actually choked on the soap. Finally after an eternity, Daddy let me
rinse. I knew what was coming next, and for once, I didn’t deserve
it. “Please don’t spank me. I didn't do it, Daddddy!” I cried, as he led
me to my bedroom.
“Samantha,
stop trying to lie your way out. You
have a sound paddling coming, and you are just making it worse.”
“But Daddy, I didn't open my presents, honest!” I screamed in
his face.
“Don’t scream at me, young lady,”
Daddy said.
I was completely distraught
now. I don’t think I could have told
him what really happened even if he asked.
And even if I did manage to get the truth out, he probably wouldn’t
believe me.
“But Daddy, I didn’t do it,” I
cried.
“I'm
afraid that just isn't true, Samantha, no matter how much you wish it was.”
I
watched shocked as Daddy pulled down my pants and panties, lifted me over his
lap and reached for the ruler. I have
absolutely no idea where that thing came from, but I wasn’t liking this turn of
events one bit. I didn’t even know how
to make it stop at this point.
“NOOOOO!” I screamed as Daddy raised his hand and brought that
awful ruler down hard on my backside.
{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}
I was screaming and crying,
“DADDDDY! I didn't!”
{Crrackk}
{Crrackk} “Samantha Karen, {Crrackk} {Crrackk} you will {Crrackk} not {Crrackk}
lie to me {Crrackk} like this {Crrackk} over and over.” {Crrackk}
I
was already sobbing hard and my bottom was on
fire. “I didn't, Daddy, honest, waaaaaaaah!” I sobbed.
I didn’t know what to do. This had never happened to me before. Sure, I tried to get out of spankings
before, but usually they were ones I deserved.
This time, however, I didn’t, and I was at a loss as to what to do about
it.
{Crrackk}{Crrackk}
“You did, {Crrackk} young lady, {Crrackk} and you know {Crrackk} you did.
{Crrackk} Stop lying; {Crrackk} you are only {Crrackk} getting in deeper.”
{Crrackk}{Crrackk}
“Owwww, yes, Dadddy,” I said, not knowing what else to
do. Maybe if I apologized, he would
stop and it would be all over. “Please
stop, Daddy, I'm sorrrry!” I cried.
But
he didn’t stop. The spanking and the
lecture just went on and on. I tried to
pay attention, but I was feeling so miserable.
{Crrackk}{Crrackk}
“And in addition to lying, {Crrackk} you will not {Crrackk} unwrap presents or
sneak around {Crrackk} spoiling surprises. {Crrackk}{Crrackk} I am very
{Crrackk} disappointed in you, {Crrackk} Samantha Karen.”
{Crrackk}{Crrackk}{Crrackk}
“Owwww,
yes sir,” I cried. I hadn’t even done
anything, yet I was feeling so sorry.
Amazing how that happens like that.
Finally,
Daddy said, “All right, your spanking is over, Samantha.”
Daddy let me up and I stood, rubbing my bottom and
crying hysterically. I danced around trying to put the fire out in my
bottom. “Daddddy, that hurrrrrrrrt!” I cried loudly.
“What
you did hurt me, unwrapping the presents, and then lying about it, over and
over. You deserved that spanking, and I hope you have learned your
lesson. Now I love you, and I always
will, no matter what, but I am very unhappy with the way you acted, and how
long it took you to admit it. So I want
you to have some time to think about this. You are going to spend the
rest of the day in your room, and you will be going to bed early, without
supper,” Daddy added.
My
eyes widened in shock as Daddy proclaimed no dinner for me. I couldn’t believe it. I must have been a truly naughty kid to
deserve such a harsh punishment. But
wait, I hadn’t done anything wrong. Was
it too late to tell what really happened?
I didn’t know what to do.
Daddy
gave me a quick reassuring hug before he left the room. I turned and lay down on my bed. I still wasn’t sure what to do.
After a while, I thought I should
tell Daddy what had really happened.
Most likely he wouldn’t punish me again. That had been an awfully hard spanking. I peeked my head out the door.
“Daddy? Can we talk now?” I
asked.
Daddy
heard me and came in. “Yes,
Samantha? What do you want to say?” he
asked.
I
didn’t know where to begin. I was
feeling very uncertain. “Daddy? If I did something bad and didn't tell you, would you
be mad?”
“Well,
I would not be happy. Both because of what you did and because of your
not telling me. But, if you tell me on your own I will always be less
upset then if I find out, particularly if you lie about it.”
I
bit my lip and tried to think where to begin.
“Well, Daddy, I did something by
accident. But I was afraid to tell you.”
“It
is usually better to tell me about accidents.
If it is a real accident, you won't get in trouble, unless you were
careless. Even then it will be less
trouble than if you tried to hide it.”
I
took a deep breath and started to open my mouth. Just then, we heard Mommy come in the front door.
“Hello!”
she called out.
Daddy
went to my door and peeked out. He
yelled down, “Up here, hon, in Samantha’s room.”
We
waited til Mommy joined us. She saw my
red-rimmed eyes as she leaned it to kiss me.
“What happened, Samantha? Did
you get in trouble today?”
I
nodded. Mommy shook her head. “Honestly, Samantha, Chanukah is coming
soon. Couldn’t we go a few days without
you being punished?”
“Speaking
of Chanukah, Denise, did you notice how Samantha’s presents were wrapped? With
the funny paper, and some were ripped on the end?” Daddy said.
Mommy
laughed. Daddy and I both just looked
at her. “Yeah, I did that,” she
admitted.
Daddy
was shocked. “Excuse me?” he said.
“Yeah,
the two different kinds of paper on some of the presents?” Mommy stated. “I ran out of one kind halfway through, so I
decided to make them decorative, if you could call it that,” she said with a
chuckle.
Daddy
looked at me and then back at Mommy.
She still had no idea what was going on.
“So
what’s so serious in here? What happened?” Mommy asked.
Daddy
sat down on the edge of my bed. He
looked at Mommy. “But if you, uh, umm,” he began, looking at me. I just sat there, not knowing what to
say. “Samantha, what were you about to
tell me before Mommy came in?”
I took another deep breath and
began. “Well, Daddy, I found my
Chanukah presents before Mommy wrapped them,” I said.
Daddy just sighed.
I continued, “I didn't mean to.
I was looking for something and I found them. I wasn't gonna tell
you, cuz I know how much you like them to be a surprise.”
“Little
one? Is that how you knew that the box had legos in it?”
I
nodded, trying not to cry. “I'm sorry,
Daddy. I didn't wanna ruin Chanukah.
Are you mad?”
Daddy
shook his head and opened his arms. I
went into them and he hugged me tight to him.
“Oh, little one, no, of course I’m not mad.”
Mommy
was completely confused. She looked at
Daddy and at me. Daddy sniffled. I looked up at him. He looked as if he were about to cry. “What’s wrong, Daddy?” I asked.
“Little
one, did you tell anyone about knowing what your presents were?”
I
sobbed. “Well, I told Danny, Daddy. But he told me he wouldn't tell.”
Mommy
just sat there as Daddy comforted me.
“Did you tell him that you unwrapped them, maybe?” Daddy asked, hoping.
I
shook my head no. “Uh uh, Daddy.”
“Oh boy,” he said. He turned to Mommy. “I guess I really goofed.”
“Will someone please tell me
what’s going on here?” Mommy declared.
Daddy held me and said to
Mommy. “It seems I punished Samantha
for something she didn’t do. I thought
she unwrapped her presents, looked at them, and then rewrapped them.”
Mommy nodded. “Oh, honey.
Because of the mismatched paper?” she asked.
“Well, that, and...” Daddy
stopped.
“And what, dear?” Mommy asked.
That’s when Daddy told us what
Danny did. I was fuming mad. I wondered why he would do such a thing to
me. Maybe he was jealous cuz I was getting
better presents than him.
“Little one, I need to go call
Danny’s mother. I will be right back
and you and I will talk. Okay?” Daddy
asked, wiping away at a few tears that were lingering on my face.
I nodded. “Okay, Daddy.”
Mommy stood up. “Come on, Sammie, you can help me make
dinner while Daddy is on the phone.”
I looked at Daddy. He had said no supper for me. “Go ahead, little one. It will taste better if you help make it,”
he teased.
I smiled. I knew Daddy was trying to make up for what
he did. I went with Mommy, as Daddy
went to call Danny’s mother. I know
this isn’t nice, but I hoped Danny got in major big-time trouble.
Later on, when the dinner dishes
were put away, and my bath was over, and I was in my pajamas, and Daddy was tucking
me in, I looked at him and said, “Daddy? Can I tell you something?”
“Of
course, little one, what is it?” he asked.
“Daddy? I felt bad that you didn't believe me earlier,” I
said. I mean, I knew I should have cut
him some slack. He had tried so hard
all evening to make it up to me, but when you’ve been spanked for something you
didn’t do, it was hard to even sit, let alone forgive people very easily.
“I'm sorry, little one. I should have listened
to you better. You never stick to a lie
like that, do you? But you have lied
often in the past, which makes it harder to tell. Still I should have known better, and I’m sorry.”
“I
guess it’s okay.
Daddy, did I ruin Chanukah?”
“No, it was an accident, and anyway, the real thing
about Chanukah is how we love each other and get together and have a good time,
not the surprise. That isn't ruined or
anything like it.”
“Okay, Daddy.”
“Little
one, I'm sorry that I spanked you so hard and so long, and that I soaped your
mouth. That was mostly because I
thought you were lying over and over, and that isn't like you, so I was
particularly severe. I should have realized that it wasn’t like you, and
checked further. I'm really very
sorry.”
I looked at him. “It’s okay, Daddy, everybody makes mistakes,
right?”
“Yes, I guess that's right. I'll try to remember that a little better
next time I think you have made one.”
“I
guess I should have just told you what happened right away. But I was scared, Daddy.”
“Little
one, I don’t ever want you to be scared to tell me anything, understand? Even if it might get you in trouble. This time it wouldn’t have, anyway, but you
didn’t know that. You aren’t afraid of
your daddy, are you, angel?”
I
shook my head. “No, Daddy, I’m not
scared of you. I guess I was just
scared I might be in trouble.”
“Well,
I guess we both learned something today, didn’t we?”
I
nodded. Daddy leaned over, kissed me
and finished tucking me in. It had been
a very long day.
I
found out the next day that Danny had gotten a big spanking. I hate to say this but I was really
glad. Hmmm, this was not over. I would have to find a way to get Danny
back, but good.
The
end.
