I've been caving since I was about 10, turned on to the sport by my older brother, John,
when he took me to a small cave about a mile from our house, under the 18th century Buchanon house. This historical building has
since been razed and replaced by a small office building, but the cave is still intact.
I'm a member of the National Speleological
Society (NSS# 53038). My grotto is the Southport
Chronic Cavers Grotto (secretary from 2003 - 2007), member (by default) of T.A.G., the Tennessee-Alabama-Georgia caving community,
and SERA, the Southeastern Regional Association, an internal organization of the NSS.
The initial purpose to this part of my web site is to show how I modified a Rayovac Sportsman 3-in-1 headlamp
from a single white LED with two red LEDs to a three white LED lamp, and the addition of a simple constant
current circuit that maintains about 20mA of current to the LEDs throughout most of the life of the batteries.
