Welcome to the new season

Welcome to the upcoming 2008/2009 season for Little Athletics. The new season has come upon us quickly and its time to get out and get fit after the winter blues.

We hope that you have had a good break over the winter and ready to start after the inspirational efforts of the Australian Track & Field athletes at the Olympics. With a new season upon us preparations at SELAC are well under way for start of the competitions and as you would have noticed the website is undergoing a makeover as well, so check back regularly for new items. If you encounter any problems please contact the Web Administrator.

Athletes that competed last season will commence the season at the same time; points and qualifying for S.I.C.(State Individual Championships) are counted.

As mentioned a lot of preparation work has been underway for the upcoming season, thanks to all those helping hands in getting everything ready.

I would also give a warm SELAC welcome to all the new athletes and Parents that will be joining us this season. We hope that you will enjoy our friendly family atmosphere.

2008 Cross Country Season

The 2008 Cross Country season was well patronized by our club this year with a lot of new faces attending various venues throughout the metropolitan area. Some venues had their challenges no more than the seasons ending Championship in the Barossa Valley where the U12 athletes had to contend with the swollen creek as well as hail throughout their race.

This season we also held one of the events at Carisbrooke Reserve in Salisbury. The event was very successful with record numbers of athletes and parents participating on our tuff X Country track. Many thanks must go to all the people behind the scenes in putting this type of event on, if we didn’t have these special people then these types of events wouldn’t run smoothly. We were also blessed with fantastic weather just too top things off on the day.

What the Cross Country Season brings to us is that you travel to various venues throughout Adelaide and have the opportunities to meet other athletes from other clubs to form friendships that can last a lifetime.

So we hope by reading this article it inspires athletes to continue on after the Summer season to join the ever increasing numbers from our club on the Cross country Circuit.

Come and Try Day

This season started with two come & try days on the 13th & 20th September which turned out to be a great success. I would like to thank all participants, both parents and athletes, for their encouragement and commitment that they showed over the 2 days.

Official Opening Day

Our Official Opening day on the 18th of October was a great success. Our special guest Para-Olympian Matthew Cowdrey was a great suprise to our athletes,as he was a previous athlete at Salisbury East as an u/6 before taking up swimming.

It was great to see all our life members and our Patron Pat St.Clair-Dixon who declared the 2008 season opened

Our Centre Captains this year is Craig Ratsch for the Boys and Danielle Crisford for the Girls, I wish them the very best for this season and for them to show leadership to our other athletes.

Welcome start to the season

What a fantastic start to the new 2008/09 season its great to see all the old and new athletes to the club. We have had a great influx of people from various areas of the Salisbury Council area which is great to see that the message of Family, Fun and Fitness is getting out to the wider community.

I would like to thank the committee for their great job they have been doing in getting the season up and running, it has been a collective effort by all and the efforts don’t go unnoticed.

With the season underway I would like to acknowledge our Sponsors to the club this year.

Sportspower Salisbury Parabanks/ Golden Grove: for all your athletic shoes and equipment to get you through the season. Also remember to use your discount cards that you received in your rego packs to save on these products.

The Spud Shop Salisbury: for healthy spuds and drinks, plus they also home deliver.

Mini Café Villi’s Hollywood Plaza: for all your favourite Villi’s Pies, Pasties, Sausage rolls, cakes and a relaxing coffee.

All you need to mention is that you belong to the Salisbury East Little Athletic Club and the sponsors will look after you.

With the season underway we are always looking for volunteers to help with the running of the meets not only timekeeping, starters etc, but also people to help in the canteen and the cooking of the Barbeques so if we all take a turn once this season then the running of the meets will run a lot smoother.
