Don Johnson's Caddis for Kids Fly Tying Marathon
Since 2001, Caddis for Kids is an annual fly tying marathon dedicated to raising funds in support of pediatric medical care. Currently the Tie-A-Thon supports the uncompensated care fund at Seattle's Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center. It is expected that this fund will provide about $38 million in care to families in need. 2003 was marked by the tying of 501 flies in 24 hours and the raising of almost $2000 for the charity. Additionally there was an expert panel of fly tyers that demonstrated their talents and donated their precious time. Their contribution was greatly appreciated and was a spectacular addition to the program. The 2004 Tie-A-Thon is scheduled for November 5th and 6th, again at the wonderful Avid Angler (www.avidangler.com) in Lake Forest Park. This year's sponsors include :St. Croix, TFO Rods, Sage, Ross Reels, Pacific Fly Group, Daiichi, Angler Sport Group, Whitefish Studios, The Norlander Copany (Nor-Vise), Rainey's Flies, Alpine Innovations, Giraffe Lighting, Oasis Tying Benches, Spencer's Hackles, McClean New Zealand Weigh Nets, Coyote Eyewear, Gudebrod, The Yorkshire Flyfisher, Scintilla Dubbing and many more to come. The expert panel of tyers this year has grown to 24 tyers who will be demonstrating their prowess in two shifts from 10:00-12:00 and 12:30 to 2:30. The drawings will begin at about 3:00 and tickets for a chance at the wonderful tackle items are only $1.00 each. A complete Nor-Vise Fly Tying System similar to that used during the event. Tying 500 flies in 24 hours wouldn't have been achievable without this system.
