STORY

What happens when a delighted son suddenly discovers that the father he thought dead for all these years is alive and is, in fact one of the richest men in the UK?

What happens when the father, happily settled with wife and children, is suddenly confronted with a grown up illegitimate son?

The son is adamant that his father accepts him at all costs.

The father is equally adamant that he will not at any cost.

What happens next, is best seen in David Dhawan’s latest film Yeh Hai Jalwa, brimming with masti, music and a hilarious story.

With Salman Khan as the mischievous, spirited son Raju and Rishi Kapoor as his helpless, reluctant father, Rajesh Mittal, Yeh Hai Jalwa has enough fun and frolic to warm the cockles of your heart.

Amisha Patel is Sonia, who loves Raju and happens to be the daughter of Rajesh Mittal’s loyal legal advisor Robin Singh.

The more the desperate pair - Mittal and Robin try to get rid of Raju, the more firmly he gets entrenched in their homes and hearts. Worse still, everybody else including the patriarch Purshottam Mittal (Kader Khan), Smita Mittal (Rati Agnihotri), Rinkie Mittal (Rinkie Khanna) adore Raju and accept him as part of their family!

What wild measures does Mittal take to eliminate Raju from his well-settled life?

What part does Vishal Kapoor as Rinkie’s devious fiancee, play in the general mayhem?

Does the street-smart son succeed in making Mittal accept him as his beta?

Or does the frantic father succeed in getting rid of Raju?

The chuckle-a minute Yeh Hai Jalwa is a total lark -clean, evergreen fun at its very best!

CREW

Editor – Director: David Dhawan. The king of comedy proves he is in fine fettle with the chuckle-a minute Yeh Hai Jalwa. With deft touches he brings out the comedy inherent in the story - an illegitimate son desperately seeking his father’s acceptance, while the father is equally desperate to keep him out of his well settled life. A situational comedy, the film is a clean family entertainer with great performances by all the lead actors.

The last release from the MKD banner, ‘Deewana Mastana’ (1997) was also directed by David Dhavan. Starring Anil Kapoor, Govinda and Juhi Chawla, the film was a roaring success.

Producer : Kanchan Ketan Desai. The low profile daughter of Shammi Kapoor and daughter-in-law of the late Manmohan Desai, Kanchan Ketan Desai turns producer with Yeh Hai Jalwa.

Co-producer : Ketan Manmohan Desai. Starting out his film career as an assistant to his father, veteran filmmaker Manmohan Desai, Ketan Desai became the third generation to enter the family business of filmmaking. Within a span of a few years he became Manmohan Desai’s chief assistant director in ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Chacha Bhatija’ and ‘Parvarish’ and chief production designer in ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. ‘Naseeb’ saw him turn executive producer and with ‘Coolie’, the biggest grosser of 1983, he established himself as a full-fledged producer.

He made his directorial debut with ‘Allahrakha’ (1985) with Jackie Shroff, Dimple Kapadia and Meenakshi Sheshadari, followed by ‘Toofan’ (1989) with Amitabh Bachchan and ‘Anmol’ (1993) with Rishi Kapoor and Manisha Koirala.

Today, Ketan Desai leads one of the most reputed and respected film empires called ‘M.K.D. the stamp of entertainment ….’ Which also has the following concerns under its wing - M.K.D. Films, M.K.D. Films Combine, M.K.D. Films Enterprises, M.K.D. Films Services, M.K.D. Commercials and now Media Today and the Entertainers.

Music : Himesh Reshammiya. He made a quiet but sensational debut by composing two songs for Jab Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya. He followed this by composing two more numbers for Hello Brother and turned solo music director with Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, also directed by David Dhavan.

With Yeh Hai Jalwa he reinforces the rapport he shares with David Dhavan and delivers some scintillating numbers totally in tune with the film’s mood.

Lyrics : Sudhakar Sharma. He is closely associated with Himesh Reshmayya and wrote all the hit songs of Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge. With Yeh Hain Jalwa, the duo get together and deliver another block buster of a score.

Yeh Hai Jalwa Yeh Hai Jalwa Yeh Hai Jalwa

October 30, 2001 - Progress and Analysis
So you thought Salman Khan was gone for good. Well it sure seems like it with the minimal releases he has lately and the few that he has in the line up. The few consists of this up and coming comedy/drama, Yeh Hai Jalwa from his reliable buddy David Dhawan. This film has already been completed, but with the high prospects of recent releases (and the many more to come), the postponing of the film's release seems like a smart move. Especially since David Dhawan´s last release Kyo Kii Main Jhuth Nahin Bholta didn´t do any type of business at the box office. Perhaps this film is destined to be their comeback film (both Dhawan and Salman), after all, the theme seems like hit material and it's star cast is pretty hit potential as well. Not only does it star box office goddess Amisha Patel , but Sanjay Dutt is guest appearing as well, and there's the couple that keeps re-appearing in recent films, Rishi Kapoor and Rati Aghinotri. Sort of a secure cast to present his film with, let's hope it works this time.

Like Father Like Son Salman Khan is a successful, mature young man who seems to be missing something from his life. His parents. Slowly but surely, Salman sets out to find his father, the only one who he has information on. He later learns that Rishi Kapoor is his long lost father, but Rishi Kapoor has moved on with his life with his wife Rati Aghinotri. Unfortunately, with the success that Rishi has faced he is reluctant to believe that Salman is his son. Rather, he thinks he is just trying to manipulate him. Salman then embarks on journey not only to prove his worth, but to prove he is his son as well. This journey becomes an emotional saga for everyone involved. Amisha is the mystery character in the film whose role is said to be equally as in-depth as Rishi and Salman´s. That would be the way to go after all the success she´s faced with films based on the heroine. Nitin Manmohan Desai has made many successful family oriented films. David Dhawan has as well, but the latter has faced many more failures as of late. Let´s wait and see whether this will work for Salman in his time of desperate need. Yeh Hai Jalwa has been scheduled for release since October but should hit the screen before the year is over.
