The Salman Khan - Shilpa Shetty - Abhishek Bachchan starrer Phir Milenge that revolves around the AIDS theme organized a ramp show at The Leela on Saturday evening, August 21. The audio release of Sohail Khan's latest venture I - Proud To Be An Indian last night was a happening event at the Spice room in J.W.Mariott. Sohail, clad in a white t-shirt that proudly read the title of the film 'I' made an entry with his all new cast and crew.
For the first time, Sohail is not involved in a film as director. This time he hands over the directorial reins to debutante Puneet Sira and seemed quite happy about his decision. The film deals with racial discrimination faced by the middle class Asian families in UK. Pakistani based - UK settled actor 'Imran Ali Khan' plays Sohail's Pakistani friend in the film while for the bad man who plays a menacing whitehead in the film, Sohail has roped in the 6ft 4in British actor 'Tim Lawrence'. Sohail claimed that this international casting was a conscious effort on his part to add to the authenticity of the characters in his film. His love interest in the film is played by a Pakistani based - Canada settled actress 'Heena Tasleem'.
As the press conference initiated, Sohail was very casual in his replies to the anxious media-persons, detailing everything from his experiences to the budget of the film. The theme of I, he claimed is something, which Bollywood has not witnessed as yet.
The surprise came through brother Salman Khan, who made a late entry at around 11:00 pm and released the audio of the film. Others spotted at the event included directors of Salman's forthcoming films, Puneet Issar (Garv) and Atul Agnihotri (Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha); Arshad Warsi, Zayed Khan, Shefali Shetty, Vrajesh Hirjee and music directors of the film Daboo Malik and K.C.Loy.

Adnan Sami's Tera Chehra won three IMMIES, Norah Jones bagged two and Lata Mangeshkar received the coveted Inspirational award. Shah Rukh Khan and Yana Gupta picked Best Performance in a Song while hosts Cyrus and Saif won everyone's hearts. In what is sure to make music history Euphoria and Junoon jammed together and Salman Khan was at his topless best.
We've always heard that music crosses all boundaries, but at the IMMIES we saw it happen as Pakistani band Junoon performed three songs with apna own Euphoria. The performances ended with band members holding up a unified national flag of both countries (it received the most energetic applause from the audience).
The very hot Yana Bijlee Gupta won Best Performance in a Song (Female) and was later accompanied by the equally sizzling Isha Koppikar and Amrita Arora in a specially remixed and choreographed medley by Ganesh Hegde. If you thought Britney, Madonna and Christina were steamy you have to see this performance to believe it!
If that wasn't enough, our favourite bad boy, stud muffin Salman Khan performed with five of our MTV VJs including Shenaz, Ramona, Anusha, Sophia and Malaika.
The standing ovation of the evening was reserved for the nightingale of India, the graceful Lata Mangeshkar who won the Inspirational award and said, "I know I may seem senior to you in years, but I thank and will remember this honour given to me."
In a tussle of sorts most of the film category awards were picked up by tracks from Saathiya and Koi Mil Gaya, the latter topping, with three awards going to Best Male Singer (Sonu Nigam, who for some reason thanked the Kal Ho Naa Ho team!), A R Rehman (Best Composer) and Gulzar (Best Lyrics). Farah Khan won Best Choreographer and Chitra won Best Female Singer for the movie Koi Mil Gaya. Even the already popular Kal Ho Naa Ho picked an IMMIE for Best Film Album causing writer Karah Johar to announce, "it's time to disco!"
Hero No1. Shahrukh Khan beat Salman, Vivek and Tusshar for Best Perfomance in a Song - Male for Chalte Chalte and said in all modesty, "someone else directed the movie, someone else sang it, somebody else choreographed it, and I win the award!"
Other acts of the evening were Danish percussionists Safri Duo accompanied by the thundering, lungi clad, shades wearing Kerala Drummers who also performed "All The People in the World," featuring Clark Andersen.
Bhangra pop, the new global rage was very much present with live performances by Rishi Rich Project (Dance With You), Panjabi MC (Mundian Tu Bach Ke) and the red-hot Outlandish with their hit "Aicha".
Our hosts Saif Ali Khan (suave and smart) and Cyrus Broacha (wacky and wild) received more than a warm welcome with their entry in which Saif shot Broacha four times. Cyrus Bakra Broacha went on to regale audiences ("now we have an AV on Pamela Anderson, called Chestlife") while Saif and he announced that they were now available for parties and weddings! Later Cyrus walked in as Michael Jackson with 20 kids in tow, and got himself electrocuted in the Yaraana man suit!
The other top awards of the evening went to Adnan Sami (Best Male Pop, Best Video, Best Album) for Tera Chehra and Norah Jones (Best Female Pop International, Best Debut International) who couldn't' be there but thanked her fans in a recorded speech and hinted that she'd "see us soon"!
In categories other than popular and film the MTV IMMIES also awarded Pankaj Udhas (Best Ghazal), Jagjit Singh (Best Devotional), Bhimsen Joshi (Best Classical Vocal) and Rahul Sharma (Best Classical Instrumental) who said, "In these days of remix and pop, we're happy that MTV is recognizing classical genres as well."
Speaking of remixes, the Best Remix Video Song was awarded to the G-string video "Kaanta Laga" which went to producers Harry Anand, Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao. The award was presented by Bappi Lahiri who walked on stage with 20 disco dancing Bappi look-alikes!
Westlife boys (all dressed in black Sherwani's) won Best Male Pop International and dedicated the award to a colleague's father who passed away a day before the IMMIES. They also performed their hits "Mandy," and "Hey Whatever".
Earlier in the evening Jaya Bachchan presented Best Ghazal while Shoba Gurtu (the Queen of Thumri) presented Best Classical Vocal. The IMMIES also recognized the efforts and bravery of the Anti-Piracy brigade and honored Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Ram Kripal Singh and Senior Inspector Mr. Bindeshwari Singh.
Before the show began the red carpet saw our sexiest stars strut their stuff - Diya Mirza looked angelic in a flowing Cinderella dress, Fardeen in a dashing jacket and trademark stubble. Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan choose to be fashionably late and Preity was a delicious combination of cute and hot in her tiny black skirt.
After the awards ceremony, the party moved on to the J W Marriot, which witnessed the best of the celebs, performers, winners, losers, partying like it was going out of style. We're talking Abhishek Bachchan (the next bad boy) Djing with DJ Aqeel, Salman Khan screaming for a free Outlandish CD, and Junoon jamming at the Classic Rock Lounge. Divided into three zones - Bhangra, NRG, Classic Rock - the post party was as good as the awards with no holds barred performances by Safri Duo, Rishi Rich, Outlandish, Panjabi MC, DJ Aqeel alongwith MTV band One Night Stand and rock DJs Jesse and Arjun.

It was a star-studded event that found its way towards the MMRDA Grounds at the Bandra-Kurla complex last evening. Hosted by the International Association for Human Values, the Marco Ricci Each One Reach One benefit concert was a fundraiser for the World Youth Peace Summit (India) that is going to be held in December).
A veritable whos who of the film industry turned up for the event that was initiated by Sanjay Dutt and his wife Rhea Pillai. Sunil Dutt, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, Govinda, Salman Khan, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Bobby Deol, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, J P Dutta, Karan Johar and Katrina Kaif, were just some of the few who turned up for the event in support of Dutt and the cause of peace.
A familiar face spotted in the crowd was that of Police Commisioner R S Sharma who seemed to be enjoying the show. Shah Rukh said that while running after material gains he had forgotten what peace was all about.
His speech on peace was short but extremely touching. Govinda read out a short poem in the name of peace while Kareena Kapoor (was called the ambassador of peace), Esha Deol, Fardeen Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, pop groups Viva and Asma, Sameera Reddy and Priyanka Chopra performed on stage. Rani Mukherjee and Sajid Khan peformed a witty skit on stage that had Sajid hunting for a bridegroom for Rani.
It was a pleasant surprise to see NDTV anchor and newsperson, Abhigyan Prakash, stepping out for a good cause to compere the event. The night ended with an audio-visual on peace, a blaze of noisy fireworks and white balloons floating up into the sky...

Salman, Priyanka, AkshayIts all about love, romance and other natural disasters, said Sajid Khan about producer Sajid Nadiadwalas new film Mujhse Shadi Karogi, at its launch at Filmistan Studios yesterday.
The unusual combination cast of Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra cut what Sajid called the cake of success to inaugurate the film. The two-tier cake actually toppled while it was being cut, but with their respective recent hits Tere Naam and AndaazSalman, Akshay and Priyanka looked as if theyd already tasted success.
If you are wondering why anyone would cast two action heroes in a romantic film, director David Dhawan is quick to reply: They look so good together. They were our first choice.
When Nadiadwala first decided to work on the film, he called Salman Khan. The next call was to old school friend Akshay Kumar. I have cast combinations like Akshay Kumar-Sunil Shetty in Waqt Hamara Hai, Salman-Sunny Deol in Jeet or even Salman in a double role before, he explains.
The mahurat was held on a portion of the set where Salmans introductory shot was to be filmed. Some 30 cameras were laid out for the occasion.
Nadiadwalas trio took centrestage at the mahurat, and he hopes they will at the box office too. And wishing him well on the occasion were Sanjay Dutt, Preity Zinta, Karan Johar, Farah Khan (whos the choreographer for the film), Atul Agnihotri, Puneet Issar, Ayub Khan and others.

The invitation came in the form of a bonsai plant. An invitation with a difference!
The party to celebrate the music launch of B.R. Chopra's BAGHBAN, directed by Ravi Chopra, on Wednesday, August 27 at Hotel Intercontinental The Grand, Sahar, was an equally different affair.
The Chopra brothers, B.R. and Yash, shared the podium after a very long time. Amitabh and Hema Malini, who were working with each other after almost twenty years, were on the dais, talking about their experiences while working in the film. Ditto for Amitabh and director Ravi Chopra, who were working together after ZAMEER [1974], after almost two decades. Amitabh and Salman, who have been teamed for the first time for a film, showered compliments on each other...
Before B.R. Chopra officially launched the music of the film, an audio-visual presentation highlighting important moments from the film were screened for the select invitees.
Like always, it was the Big B who stole the march with his short-n-sweet speech, while speaking about BAGHBAN. Some gems: "Meet Esha Deol's younger sister -- Hema Malini. When I look at her, mujhe sharm-si aa jaati hain. She's growing younger with each passing day. And here we are. Look at us!
"I wish I was as cool as Salman in real life. Whatever people have to say about Salman, in my opinion he's a gem of a person with a heart of gold. Very sensitive. Very emotional. I'm always with you Salman.
"Working with Ravi Chopra for BAGHBAN was an enjoyable experience. There has been a tremendous growth in him as a director."
While talking about the film, Salman did drop a hint about its storyline. "I completely identify with the character I am portraying in this film. I am like this at home. Cool In real life, I only hope we don't behave like the children in this film," he smiled.
The august gathering included veterans Sunil Dutt and Shashikala, Ashok Hinduja, Manmohan Shetty, Shyam and Balkrishna Shroff, Raj Babbar with son Arya and daughter Juhi, Overseas distributor Sanjay Jumani, Mukesh Desai [T-Series], singers Nitin Mukesh, Udit Narayan, Sudesh Bhosle... and hand-picked media persons.

Mrs. Ravi Chopra was personally looking after the guests at this classy affair. BAGHBAN has music by Aadesh Shrivastava and lyrics by Sameer. Super Cassettes Industries Ltd. is marketing the music of the film.

It was megawatt star power at the Sun-n-Sand hotel on Thursday, Independence Day Eve. The occasion was the launch of Bharathi S Pradhans (Moviemag International editor) book called, Cars, Colas and Communal Harmony, celebrating the numerous inter-faith Bollywood marriages and doffing its hat to the industrys secular colours. The evening had both style and substance.
The glitzy quota was fulfilled by the formidable star presence. Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora, Amrita Arora, Sanjay Khan, Salim Khan with his two wives, Salma and Helen sitting next to each other, Raveena Tandon, compere Rati Agnihotri, Aditi Govitrikar... the list had luster.
Former super cop Julio Riberio spoke about how he was horrified to learn about the 1992-93 riots in Mumbai while he was in Romania as Indias ambassador to the country. Joint Commissioner of Police Javed Ahmed, impressive in uniform, took the dais to give his message: This Independence Day let us have freedom from our bias and prejudices.
Mahesh Bhatt roared, Anybody who has lived through the fires of religious hatred knowns what it is. I have not said everything in the book, because there is only that much truth people can handle. Model Aditi Govitrikar spoke about how she fell in love with her Muslim husband Muffazal, ironically when she was stranded in her hostel at Grant Medical College while communal riots raged outside.
Salman Khan said, I am used to getting in trouble. I am going to do so again I think. Without me Javed saab (Javed Ahmed, he meant) would be out of work. After the audience had recovered, S K went on harking back to Charles Darwins theory of evolution, We all come from monkeys. Monkeys have no religion. He raised laughs at the sporting swipe he took at himself, I learnt about God in the fifth standard. Incidentally, I had great difficult in making it to the sixth standard. I am not a graduate. I might do my graduation when I am 60 or 70... Finally, SK left the mike with, I was born in Indore, brought up in Bombay, Bandra Bandstand. I opened my eyes in this country, I will shut them here.
Akshay Kumar revealed that he has decided not to mouth anti-Pakistan dialogues in his projects. Saying no to the India vs Pakistan stand, Akshay said, it must be India with Pakistan vs terrorism. The feel-good evening closed early by 8.30 pm. Tri-coloured orange, white and green soft did the rounds, giving greater resonance to Sanjay Khans message. The only flag that matters is the tricolour...

Producer K.C. Bokadia's association with T-Series began in the 1980s with PYAR JHUKTA NAHIN. The producer and the music company gave several hits thereafter, before they went separate ways. But they have joined hands once again for HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM, which stars three sought-after names of Bollywood in principal roles.

The three Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit made a point to attend the get-together, held on Monday, January 21 at Hotel Holiday Inn, despite their busy schedules. Also present on the occasion were the two financiers of the project Rashesh Shah (son of Bharat Shah) and T.P. Aggarwal (producer of BHARAT BHAGYA VIDHATA).

In a concise speech, SRK said that he was glad that the film had shaped up well and that he was awaiting its release. Salman described his experience of working in the project as fruitful and added that he will always cherish the experience.

But it was simpleton Bokadia's straight-from-the-heart speech that echoed throughout the evening. My company, B.M.B., is going through tough times and I shall eternally be grateful to Salman, Shah Rukh and Madhuri for standing by me in this hour of crisis. Had it not been for them, I would have collapsed completely, he said.

This writer witnessed songs from the film and the impact was indeed mesmerising, with the title track, 'Gale Mein Lal Tie' and 'Taaron Ka Chamakta' being the pick of the lot.

HUM TUMHARE HAIN SANAM has music by Nadeem-Shravan, Nikhil-Vinay, Daboo Malik, Bappi Lahiri, Bali Brahmbhatt and Sajid-Wajid. The film is slated for release in March.

Trust Bollywood to throw up unique ideas. In real life, that is. Like the recent cricket match held at the CCI club. Everyone right from the Big B to Usha Uthup and Shaan made it a point to put in an appearance. And with good reason too. For the match was for the 'Save The Children, India' (Earthquake Relief Fund), and aptly titled 'Heroes for Hope'. While our film industry may be sometimes short of ideas, when it comes charity, they're all heart. More

Aishwarya Rai released the music of 'Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaye' on Oct. 23 at Hotel Regent, Bandra. The stars of the film Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon and Pooja Batra were present on the occasion. The main heroine of the project Rani Mukherji was conspicuous by her absence. Venus is marketing the music of the film, which has music by Himesh Reshammiya. Salman and Ash walked in the party together and left the party together after the former Miss World released the music. The couple was accompanied by Salman's younger brother Sohail (with his pregnant wife), Bunty Walia (Salman's close buddy), singer Kamaal Khan and his fianc, veejay Amrita Arora. While talking to this writer, Sohail Khan informed that his new project after 'Hello Brother', starring himself in the main lead, will be launched on Valentine's Day next year. The launch of this film, a romantic-musical, has been delayed by two months. It was to be launched in December this year, but since Sohail's wife is expecting the couple's first baby in December, Sohail decided to postpone the launch by two months. "In any case, this delivery (his wife's) is more important than the other (film's delivery)," Sohail joked in his by-now-famous characteristic style. Well said! The film currently has a working title and is called 'Mujhe Pyar Hua'. Look's like Sohail is very inspired by big bro's 'Maine Pyar Kiya', as far as the title goes. The film is scheduled for release on Valentine's Day in 2002. A new heroine opposite Sohail is yet to be finalised. Dabu Malik, brother of Anu Malik, has already recorded the songs of the film.

India Talkies Launch in Mumbai on August 24, 1999
Source: Rediff

BOLLYWOOD BITES: Filmstrip : September 04, 1999
Food is Bollywood's latest venture. With Salman Khan launching India Talkies, the desi version of renowned theme restaurant Planet Hollywood, in partnership with Karisma Kapoor, Mahima Chowdhary and Sanjay Dutt, we hope to see the snazzy eatery at the turn of the millenium. Salman is confident of its popularity because Indians just love food. With the menu having proposed delicacies like Judwaa Jalebi's and Khalnayak Cutlets, the city's foodies might put the stars in the same league as Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis. The actors are enthusiastic about the project and propose to pay a great deal of attention to the ambience of the restaurant as well as the quality of the food.

STAR'S DA DHABA: Screen : September 03, 1999
Indians love food and this is one industry where you just cant go wrong, opines Salman Khan whos launching India Talkies, a theme restaurant on the lines of Planet Hollywood. And hes doing it in partnership with Karisma Kapoor, Mahima Chowdhary and Sanjay Dutt. At the turn of the millennium we will have an eatery where these stars may drop by to check out on the turn-out. Sounds intersting, doesnt it? Yes, as long as the patrons retain their starry halo, the proposal looks good, but what happens when their stocks start crashing, wont the fluctuating star appeal of the stars mar the popularity of the food joint? Salman is confident that it wouldnt because Indians just love food. Enthusiastic about the project, they propose to pay great attention to the ambience, quality of food and work out a right attitude for it,We have got it all taped out, asserts Salman. But we would rather wait and watch, for the proof of the pudding is in eating, isnt it?

MUMBAI MASALA ON INDIA TALKIES MENU: India Daily: August, 1999
It sounds like Bombay Talkies in a new avatar, has enough star power to light up a dark night and thinks it can make Planet Hollywood look like its clone.
So what exactly is India Talkies?
With some of the biggest draws in Bollywood lending it their names, India Talkies is a them restaurant chain, blending cuisine, cinema and Indian culture and with plans of opening restaurants across India within a year. The latest showcause offering from Bollywood comes packaged with as much glitz and glamour as tinseltown can muster. On August 23, the groundbreaking party for the first outlet - to be located over 9,000 square feet of prime real estate in lower Parel in central Mumbai - had almost everybody who was anybody in the film industry : Sunjay Dutta, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Govinda and Mahima Choudhary to name a few.
The next stop is Delhi in about a couple of months, followed by Lucknow,Calcutta, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. The restaurants will be franchised.
Andre Timmins of Wizcraft, an event management company, said India Talkies would go one better than Planet Hollywood, the chain of theme restaurants owned by Hollywood icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Demi moore. "We are going to rock the world. We are going to set up the international restaurant chain of the next millennium for Indian food. And that is going to be very different from what Planet Hollywood did", said Timmins
One difference between India Talkies and its Hollywood cousin is already clear. The stars had stakes in the US restaurants. Here, they will only be lending their names to promote the chain.
The hunt for the right place to set up the first India Talkies restaurant took a while. "We had to look at about 200-300 places before deciding on this. That delayed the project by one-and-a-half years", Timmins said.
The interiors of the restaurant will have 3-D blowups of the stars. "Once you are inside, you will see the unfolding of Indian cinema in 3-D. Get nostalgic about `Sholay' `Deewar'and `Mother India'," Timmins said.

STAR-STUDDED 'TALKIES'!: Filmfare : August 26, 1999
Remember last year when Sunjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Mahima Choudhary and Govinda joined hands to launch Indias answer to Planet Hollywood -- India Talkies? Well, long after Govinda opted out, the worldwide chain of starry hotels is finally happening. The foundation stone for the first India Talkies was laid at the Phoenix mills compound in Bombay yesterday (24th, Aug). With the event-management group Wizcraft and the blessings of Smita Thackeray solidly with the project, it can only take off. And it was happy smiles all around as Sunju, Salu, Lolo and Mahima proudly flagged off the thingy. Which should be ready within a year. And will Govinda be able to eat there after backing out? Without a discount we think.

PKTDK SILVER JUBILEE BASH! - Showtime : October 15, 1998
The Khan brothers, Salman, Arbaaz, and Sohail, along with co-producer Bunty Walia threw a bash to celebrate the silver jubilee of Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya. The who's who of the industry turned up to join in the revelry. They were all there togged up in their glory, from Abhishek Bachchan to Sanjay Dutt to Twinkle Khanna to Tabu to Raj Thackeray to Sooraj Barjatya to Preity Zinta to phew! Salman looked dishy and 'tantalising', as someone commented, in a blazer thrown over a provocative net T-shirt (Salman wouldn't be Salman if there wasn't body display), Arbaaz looked suave and handsome in a natty suit, Sohail casual and happy in Hilfiger, hugging his wife. All in all, a happening party. P.S. The heroine of the next Khan drama, Hello Brother, Rani Mukherjee was present with Mom. Karisma Kapoor couldn't make it as she was out of town!

A KHAN KHAANA KHAZANA! - G Online : November, 1998
If we were in China, it would be called the Year of the Khans! Except this was in China Garden - a Khan do to celebrate Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya's silver jubilee and launch Tips' Hello Brother. Brothers Khan - Salman, Sohail and Arbaaz looked OUTRAGEOUSLY handsome and as delectable as the prawn wontons. Present were proud papa Salim, the charming Helen, Sal's gal Somy Ali, Mamta Kulkarni, Twinkle, Nasir-Kamal-Sajid-Khan... In fact, China Garden should consider re-naming itself: China Khaana! A timely tip, Brother Wong!
