Wait
2000 and one American dreams
the lights are all a flicker
beyond our 58 inch screen
our TV dinners are toasted
the tinfoil sticks to the plate
the Polaroid fog cleared away as we ate.

A promise faded behind our baby eyes
intentions, pretensions, a pleasant surprise.
you burnt our supper
and your smiles come too late.
The kitchen is cold now,
as I sit and wait.
