Once Upon a Dream
On a soft summer night,
your eyes sparkled in the dim light from above
as you sank down beside me,
sighed, and whispered words into my hair.

As you told me tales of the songs you loved
I heard the music, not in my ears, but in my head
and it was faraway and cool,
like the breeze that blew in from the street.

The room spun,
the others danced and laughed
and no one noticed, but we had begun.

So, in time we were Julius and Ethel
sharing nuclear secrets
lying together on my rooftop patio
earning our disillusionment
sharing cigarettes
making love
and spinning in infinity
like angels, fresh from the electric chair.
