My Thoughts On Theatre
When I was little and throughout high school, the idea of me going into theatre or even becoming so involved in theatre in college, never crossed my mind. I was a pro at math and drama always seemed like a different world. Theatre seemed like a whimsical world of la-de-da and no reality. A hobby, not a career. So I never got involved, until I took a chance at UCFV. And in doing so stepped into a different world. And I mean this, it's as if the doors to the department are the gateways to a whole nother universe. Because there is a comfort there, most of the time a family like atmosphere. (I say most of the time because there will always be gossip, fights, backstabbers in every world, no matter how magical). There is encouragement and acceptance and just a general good feeling. Sometimes when I'm not feeling like the world is a merry place, I wish I could escape to the hallways and to the green room, to see a smiling face, to hear the voices of a family when mine is so very far away. To feel I matter somewhere.

So while I'm not sure whether I'll dive full in and take acting next year (as against it as I've been, anyone in the theatre dept. can tell you that, a part of me is actually looking forward to it.....scary I know...), I will be back to continue what I love doing, working backstage and stealing hangers.

I love this place for the people. "Theatre people" are bold, brave (you have to be to put yourself out there so much), absolutely hilarious, fun, smart and alive.. Alive because there is this energy there that brings you out of any sadness, that makes you feel amazing. It is an escape of sorts. No people I know love costume as much, love to dress up or pose for pictures in awkward or incriminating positions. No people I know can sing Bohemian Rhapsody entirely or can site every episode of Full House or Saved By The Bell. No people I know know how to be themselves more than "theatre people". They are real and they are fun.
So here's what I ask of you. Tell me what theatre means to you..
