________________________________________________________________________________________ May 2, 2004 Today we were talking about money and Nathaniel says, "money comes from dadda's pocket." LAUGH! If only it were that easy... We explained to Nathaniel that Daddy goes to work to earn money, but we know he really doesn't understand that yet. The innocence of a child! ________________________________________________________________________________________ May 1, 2004 I don't know where Nathaniel picked this up, but he calls tractors "farmer John tractors." If he sees someone driving a tractor, he calls them "farmer John." hee hee! ________________________________________________________________________________________ April 19, 2004 Yesterday Daddy and Nathaniel were playing on the couch. Daddy told Nathaniel that "we are the same." Nathaniel said, "no, not the same." They kept saying this over and over, it became a game. It was funny. Yesterday Nathaniel said, "daddy is pretty." I said, "yes he is." He said, "mommy is pretty." I said, "ahh, thank you sweetie." I was thinking to myself, that is so sweet for him to say that to us. He must have a good handle on that word. Then Nathaniel says, "post office pretty." I broke down laughing! The things kids say! For some reason, Nathaniel calls his sleeves "scrubs." He got very upset the first warm day we had this spring when we wore short sleeves. He likes to be fully dressed, socks and all. He was upset when I couldn't pull his "scrubs" down, like I do after we wash his hands. Nathaniel's newest favorite word is disgusting. He used it for the first time in play. He was playing and suddenly said, "that's disgusting." I burst out laughing. On April 1st, Nathaniel and I were playing trains together. He likes to line his wooden blocks up and make *trains* with them. I found 2 toy coins and handed them to him saying "can I have a ride on your train?" He took them and said "I be right back." He came back and said, "I put money in bank." I was suprised and said, "how did you know that money goes in the bank?" Nathaniel said, "I smart!" ________________________________________________________________________________________ February 23, 2004 Once again I fell way behind on Nathaniel's website. We had a very nice Christmas. Nathaniel wanted Santa to bring him a "wiggles guitar" for Christmas. He was very happy come Christmas morning. Nathaniel is very smart. He knows all the sounds to the letters of the alphabet. He can also recognize a good portion of them. Nathaniel has an infatuation with any "tool." He loves my hairdryer, the iron, the curling iron, vacuums, etc. Today he wanted to play with the hairdryer. I told him, "no, the hairdryer is not a toy." He said, "get a toy hairdryer." I said, "if we come across a toy hairdryer, we will get on." Then he moved onto the curling iron. We had the same dialogue but at the end I said, "I've never seen a toy curling iron." And he said, "check e-bay." I lost it laughing! I guess I've been selling/buying way too much on e-bay lately. ________________________________________________________________________________________ January 1, 2004 We had dinner with Nick's family tonight. Nathaniel has us laughing. Kids think the funniest things. Nick has a very sweet dog. She was on her back while I was petting her. Nathaniel says, "mommy, where did her pee-pee go." I said, "sweetie, Lexus is a girl. She doesn't have a pee-pee like you." ________________________________________________________________________________________ December 8, 20 03 We finally got Nathaniel his very own potty yesterday. He was so excited once we got it home. He carried it around the house all afternoon, and was sitting on it a lot as well. I even caught him standing in front of it (mimicking daddy) saying "sssssssss!" We took Nathaniel to see Santa Claus at the mall about 2 weekends ago. Nathaniel was too big about Santa, and wasn't to sure what to think. But, he got sooo excited about the fake snow. As soon as he saw it, he said, "SNOW" and tried to walk on it. It was much too cute. About 3 weeks ago, Nathaniel and I went for a playdate at a friend's house. On the way there, I was testing his memory. I would ask him what color an object was (example, tomato) to see if he could think of the object and come up with the correct color. He got them all right. Then I asked him what color the leaves were. He said, "I don't know, Mommy." It was too funny! I can see why he wouldn't know as the leaves were just falling off the trees and were an assortment of colors. That same day, I had a funny conversation with Nathaniel. My friend had some trees next to their driveway that they had removed. There were circles of grassless dirt. This is our conversation. Nathaniel: "look mommy, dog poop. Me: "That's not dog poop, honey, it's just dirt." Nathaniel: "dog dirt!" Me: "what's dog dirt?" Nathaniel: "Umm.....it's when you use a shovel." Me: "oh, I see." I'm not quite sure what he meant, but I think he was thinking about when daddy use a shovel to scoop up the dog poop off our lawn. ________________________________________________________________________________________ November 16, 2003 Nathaniel is a riot! He has us laughing all the time. The other day he was talking on the phone to our old neighbor. His daddy had to blow his nose, and Nathaniel told Cindy "dadda is blowing his boogers." Nathaniel's newest fascination is candles. He found a tea light candle the other day and fell in love. I filled up a basket of votive candles and he carries it everywhere. He even has to take a few candles for a ride in the van when we go places. He is a very unique child. :) Whenever daddy goes somewhere, I always tell him to drive safely. Now whenever he leaves the house, Nathaniel tells his daddy to "drive safely dadda." He is too precious! ________________________________________________________________________________________ November 4, 2003 Nathaniel taught himself a new "trick" today. He slides off the couch head first, pretending to fall off. He was so proud of himself and was laughing hysterically. ________________________________________________________________________________________ November 2, 2003 Nathaniel's website has been very neglected these past several months. We moved and things were quite busy. I will do my best to update you on Nathaniel and all the things he has done. He has changed quite a bit since July and is doing lots of new things. He can speak in short sentences now. He can count, walk up and down stairs by himself, he knows all his colors, he knows the days of the week, months, and seasons with help. He is just amazing and is so much fun. I love being able to have mini conversations with him. When we moved into our new house, Nathaniel was so happy. He loves it here! We went by the rental house a few times, and for a couple weeks, everytime he saw it, he would say "no no no no." We had to run by the day after we moved to pick up a left behind item, and we had to drag Nathaniel in kicking and screaming. Now that things are more settled, I will do my best to update this site as things happen. The big news of today is that Nathaniel is now sleeping in his big boy bed!!!! We got it set up and put the safety rail on it today. At naptime we asked Nathaniel if he wanted to sleep in it. For the first time he said yes. We layed him down in it and he was smiling from ear to ear giggling. He thought it was the neatest thing. When I went to check on him about 1/2 hour later, he had thrown his pillow and his kitties over the bedrail. He also went to bed this evening in his new bed with no trouble. We just went to "spy" on him, as we call it, and he looked so incredibly cute all cuddled up on his pillow, hugging his kitty. Man, time goes soooo fast! It seems just like yesterday that we were transitioning him from the swing into the crib. Now the crib is gone. ________________________________________________________________________________________ October 31, 2003 I forgot how much fun trick or treating is!!!!! We had a BLAST this evening. It was so nice because it was just the 3 of us. I finally put together his wagon that we have had for about 5 months, so that added an extra fun touch for Nathaniel. Nathaniel is the only kid in the neighborhood, so everyone just "ate him up." Plus, it was the first time we met most of the people in our neighborhood, so we spent about 5 minutes (more at some) at each house. Nathaniel was so cute. He is addicted to The Wiggles and insisted on taking his wiggles cassette tape cover with him. He carried it around in his basket. Too funny. He thought going out in the dark was the neatest thing, and he just lounged in his new wagon. At first he didn't know what to do, but after about 2 houses, he really caught on to it. He was too cute to watch. He said "trick or treat," "thank you," and "happy halloween" at each house (with prompting of course). He got just enough candy, not too much, not too little. When we got home, Nathaniel immediately dove into his candy basket. Before I could even wash my hands and help him, he had opened a full size Nestle candy bar and was chomping away at it. Since it was a special night, we decided to let him induldge himself. He ate about 2/3rds before handing it back to me and reaching for another piece. We figured that was enough and put it away! He is EXACTLY like his momma when it comes to chocolate. After I asked him if he had fun and he said, "yes, do it again!" ________________________________________________________________________________________ July 25, 2003 Today I was chasing Nathaniel and I caught him. He said "tricky momma." ________________________________________________________________________________________ July 23, 2003 I call Nathaniel "honey" a lot, and today he started calling me "honey." It is very cute. He also said I was funny today, "funny momma." Bear, our dog, trampled him over today, and he got very mad at Bear and scolded him in his language. ________________________________________________________________________________________ July 22nd Nathaniel and I were at the park and I was sitting on the Merrygo round watching Nathaniel play. He grabbed onto the side and starting turning it around while I was sitting on it (he's a strong boy). He then said "hold on tight." ________________________________________________________________________________________ July 9, 2003 This isn't the first time Nathaniel has done this, but today he took the vacuum cord and "plugged" it in by sticking it inside a drawer. Then he proceeded to vacuum. I think it is very cute that he knows it needs to be plugged in for it to work. Nathaniel is completely addicted to phones. He can find a phone anywhere. He knows where each and every phone is in the grocery store and excitedly points them out to me every time we shop. Today we went to C.V.S., and as I was opening the door to the van, he yelled "phoneeeeeeeeee." The phone was way over on the other side of the parking lot. Every night before bed, Dadda reads Nathaniel his bedtime stories. Several night ago, after I put him in his jammies, he got his bedtime books and brought them over to daddy without being prompted. That made dadda feel good! We went to a village with Grampy Del and the family on July 1st. The sheep were sleeping by the side of the fence and were allowing the children to pet them. Nathaniel said "pet sheep, very nice sheep, very nice sheep." It was adorable! ________________________________________________________________________________________ June 25, 2003 Tonight our friend Jeff stopped over with his dog, Sunny. Of course, as soon as Nathaniel saw Sunny, he got all excited. He fed her a few treats, and we got her some water. Nathaniel is a very good "daddy" to animals. We were standing around talking, and Nathaniel started pointing to the dog saying, "this is Sunny." Then our neighbor's son came over to say hi. Nathaniel got all excited and ran to meet him saying, "Sunny, Sunny, this is Sunny." It was absolutely adorable! ________________________________________________________________________________________ June 24, 2003 Nathaniel and I went to the lake to go swimming today. The lake is really nice and has a sandy beach. Nathaniel had the best time digging in the sand, splashing in the water, and going "deep" with mommy. He would sit down in the water and say "plop." When he sat down, he was up to his neck in water a few times. He thought it was great! ________________________________________________________________________________________ June 19, 2003 Nathaniel has been pretend playing for a while now, but the pretending is really starting to take off! He loves to turn things into either a phone or a vacuum cleaner - his 2 favorite things. He really enjoys turning his food into a vacuum. Yesterday he turned a green bean into a vacuum and "cleaned" our table. This morning our table was "cleaned" with a "toast vacuum." Whenever he vacuums, he makes the sound of a vacuum - it's a high pitched "eeeeeeehhhhh." This afternoon, Nathaniel borrowed a spatula from the drawer. He then found himself a comb. He scooped up the comb with the spatula and then flipped it over onto the coffee table. He did this over and over again. I'm not exactly sure what he was pretending - maybe flipping pancakes. It was awful cute! ________________________________________________________________________________________ June 12, 2003 Nathaniel had his two year appointment today. He weighs 27 lbs, 2 oz. and is 33 inches tall. The dr. said he is very healthy. Nathaniel can now jump in air and get both feet completely off the ground. ________________________________________________________________________________________ June 8, 2003 We went out for dinner tonight. I was ordering my meal and heard a sound coming from Nathaniel - a lip smacking sound. I look over at him and he is holding the bottle of tabasco sauce in one hand, and the cap to it in the other (he is very good at unscrewing caps off bottles, jars, etc.). He definatly sampled it! Surprisingly enough, he wasn't making a face, coughing, or looking for a drink. I think he licked the top of the bottle and decided that was enough - laugh! We order him some chicken tenders for dinner, and his meal came with a side of honey mustard. He managed to dip his hand in it when we weren't looking. His hand was covered in the sauce! It looked like he had a yellow glove on. All we could do was laugh! ________________________________________________________________________________________ June 7, 2003 Happy birthday, sweet Nathaniel! Wow! Two years old! Where has the time gone? We can hardly believe that you are two years old already! We love you so much and are very proud of you! You have become such a loving, sweet, funny, active little boy.
