| The Village of Salem |

| The Village of Salem was established in the 1630's when a group of farmers moved 5 miles from Salem Town. In 1672, Salem Village became a seperate parish. They built their own meeting house, and hired their own minister. |
| In 1689, Samuel Parris settles in Salem Village with his family and his slaves, Tituba and Indian John, and begins to preach. In the January of 1692, Elizabeth Parris Jr., also known as Betty, falls ill. This incident initiates the begining of the Salem Witch Hunts. |
