The Constitution of L.O.V.E. Gospel Choir
Article I
Name
The name of this organization shall be Lifting Our Voice to Exalt God, L.O.V.E. Gospel Choir
Article II
Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to spread the real love of Jesus Christ throughout the Salem College campus and community at large by making a joyful noise unto the Lord through song based on Psalm 100 and 1 Corinthians 13 as recorded in the Bible.
Article III
Membership
L.O.V.E. is an organization for all students at Salem College who have a desire to spread the gospel of Christ though song. Membership is limited to Salem students. Faculty participation is welcomed.
Article IV
Officers
The executive officers of L.O.V.E. shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Public Relations, Chaplain, Director, and Musician(s) (hired).
Article V
Meetings, Quorum and Attendance
Section 1. Meetings
A weekly rehearsal shall be held at the discretion of the Director of L.O.V.E. with the consent of the executive officers.
Section 2. Quorum
- Quorum for Ordinary Business: One third of the membership of L.O.V.E. is necessary to transact all business except for the passing of amendments.
- Quorum for Constitutional Amendments: Two thirds of the membership of L.O.V.E. must vote on an amendment, and of those voting a simple majority is required for adoption.
Section 3. Attendance
- All members of L.O.V.E. are expected to attend all rehearsals. If attendance is not possible, a written or verbal excuse must be submitted to a member of the Executive Board no later than dinner time of the said rehearsal date.
- The Executive Board of L.O.V.E. is required to establish an attendance policy for that Board at the beginning of each academic year. Two-third majority of the Executive Board must vote on the attendance policy and a simply majority of those voting is required for passage.
Article VI
Amendments
Proposed amendments concerning the content of the Constitution must be submitted to the vice-president of L.O.V.E. in writing. Any such amendment(s) shall be approved by a two-thirds majority of the Executive Board of L.O.V.E. before being submitted to the membership of L.O.V.E. for its final vote. Two-thirds of the membership of L.O.V.E. must vote on a proposed amendment and a simple majority of those voting is required for its adoption. The Executive Board shall have the poser to approve proposed changes in wording and/or structure of the L.O.V.E. constitution.

- Order
All questions of order shall be determined by Robert’s Rule of Order.
II. Duties of Officers
As representatives of Christ and officers of L.O.V.E. Gospel Choir, officers will strive to do all things as to the glory of God. To the best of their ability they will not put their Christian faith in a bad light. As leader of L.O.V.E., officers are to set forth the example in their attendance to rehearsals and meetings. They will strive to fulfill all the duties of the said position. If unable to fulfill these duties, the remaining officers and members will be notified of the problem so that it can be rectified immediately.
- President
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Will preside over organizational meetings
- Serves as a spokesperson for the entire group
- Serves as a contact (along with Public Relations chair) with the community about engagements
- Relays messages, engagements or other important information to the Executive Board
- Maintains regular contact with the director and musician(s)
- Vice President
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Will preside in the absence or disability of the president
- Will assist the President in the overseeing of officer functions
- Attends external meetings with President
- Secretary
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Handles all correspondence
- Posts all notices of meetings and sends individual notices (voice-mail, e-mail) of meetings when needed.
- Keeps minutes of every meeting and rehearsal so they may be referred to for future references
- Supplies Officers with copies of minutes following each meeting
- Keeps a listing of all members and their attendance record
- Treasurer
- Handles all financial transactions
- Gives monthly finance statement to all members
- Pays all organizational debts
- Provide ideas for fund-raisers
- Seeks information as to how to carry out projects
- Obtains permission for project thought proper channels (i.e., Leg Board)
- Has knowledge of the location of all fund-raising materials at all times.
- Keeps records of all funds allocated for projects
- Public Relations
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Promotes and publicizes the choir on campus and in the community
- Posts posters about rehearsals and meetings
- In charge of campus wide voice mail announcements
- Serves as liaison between choir members and community contacts.
- Historian
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Keeps a pictorial account of all organizational activities
- Keeps written journal of organizational activities
- Must attend all organizational events or find someone to attend in her absence
- Chaplain
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Oversees all spiritual matters concerning gospel choir and its members
- Conducts devotional/praise and worship period before each rehearsal
- Director
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Must possess general keyboarding skills
- Must possess conducting skills involving rhythmic beats and ear training
- Serves as liaison between choir and musician(s)
- Conducts rehearsals together with musician(s)
- Musician(s)
- To be chosen by majority vote
- Upon being chosen by the choir he/she will be interviewed by the Dean of the College and the Dean of the School of Music to establish a formal contract
- Musician’s Contract
- Must be of the Christian faith
- Shares similar vision of L.O.V.E. gospel choir
- Capable of reading music and playing by ear
- Understands the L.O.V.E. is a student run organization
- Accompanies choir at performances as schedule permits (i.e. work, family, etc.)
- Prompt to rehearsals and performances
- Easily accessible by phone, e-mail, etc.
- Must give two weeks notices if unable to play at performances
- Works jointly with director and choir
- Contract will be renewed at the beginning of every academic year
