| Description: | Selina Skies is fairly tall, especially for a woman, reaching 5'11". She has delicate features and long nails which she likes to co-ordinate with the colour of her robes. She rarely wears black, unless she's in a very bad mood, someone has died, or (until recently) it is Valentine's day. She has cloudy blue eyes and very long blonde hair, which reaches down to waist level. She wears it tied back into a ponytail, drawn in at the nape of her neck, with lots of bands placed at intervals down its length and small glass beads decorating the crown (also co-ordinated with her robes, naturally). |
| Personality: | Selina likes to think of herself as laid back, and
she pretty much is, though she can be a little scarily enthusiastic. She
tries not to lose her temper with students, as she doesn't think it is
constructive. She is very enthusiastic about both her subject and her
profession, so is pleased when students do well because of her
enthusiasm for Transfiguration and eager to help those who are less capable,
because of her love of teaching. The students who annoy her are the ones
who mess around in class. She likes to present an organised, professional front to the world when working. She is quite a sensitive person, which comes out more around her friends and family, and also a hopeless romantic. |
| Family Life: | Family is very important to Selina. All her family
attended Salem, where they were in Sal Salis.
Her parents are a wizard and witch, and her family is fairly pure blooded, but also very tolerant of Muggles/Muggle borns. She has two older sisters and a brother: Lizzie McKillen - the eldest Strix child, is seven years older than Selina. She is married to a Muggle electrician called Rob, hence Selina is fairly clued up about Muggles and things like fuses. They have two children, Isobel (six the year the RPG started) and Jack (two years younger). Lizzie worked in Muggle Relations before she left to bring up her children. They attend Hogwarts, and are in Ravenclaw, because Selina didn't want to expose her family to Ellie Santavaj. Aurora Hewitt - five years older than Selina. Her husband (Daniel) works with magical creatures and she works as an Obliviator (currently part time). They have a three year old (when the RPG started) daughter called Clare.
Leo Strix - Leo (Leonardo) is the Strix's only son. He is two years
older than Selina, and works as an Aurour. They are incredibly close,
partly because they are closer in age than the older two are to each other.
Although the whole family gets on well, the children are very much
divided into the older two and the younger two, and Leo and Selina are
closer to each other than Lizzie and Aurora. They used to spend lots of
quality time together, mainly during the holidays, due to Selina's job.
During the summer, they tended to go on action type holidays, eg rock
climbing or water skiing (both magical and Muggle ways).
Their holidays tend to spent in quieter ways now. Leo got pretty hexed
up in a raid against some dark wizards during the second year of the
RP. He was in hospital for a long time, and lost the use of his wand arm.
He also has trouble remembering things that happened since the
accident. John Skies: Selina's husband. He was a work colleague and still is a friend of Leo's and first met Selina when Leo was in hospital. The two became friends, and this later developed into romance. They got married in the summer between the sixth and seventh year of the RP. He is 6'4" with dark hair and (according to Selina) absolutely gorgeous. He's two years older than her, meaning he and Leo started auror training at the same time, which is how they got to be such good friends. The Strixes (as said) all get on well, although Selina's sisters tease her a bit, doing stuff such as levitating her hair so it shoots straight up at the dinner table. She's the baby of the family (not counting her nieces and nephews, obviously) and, when at home, gets treated as such. Despite the fact that her daughter is taller than her, her mother still pats her on the head absent mindedly, and her dad is quite protective. When she got engaged, he, jokingly(ish), accused her fianc of cradle snatching, even though Selina is older than Aurora was when she got married, and Aurora was the previous record holder for taking the longest to get married. When Selina was the only unmarried one out of her siblings, at family gatherings where distant relatives need reminding of who she was, her father referred to her as the single one' which she found rather depressing and may have accounted for her Bridget Jones's Diary' addiction. Not that she had one... Of course not. |
| Other Info: | Selina and other people:
Not that she has favourite students but..... Derry Pierce, Cristine
Rodderic, and probably Faith because of her aptitude for the subject (when
she was here). She tries to keep on the good side of all students. Of course, there are some exceptions - namely Bane Sorenson and Ellie Santavaj. She gets on well with most of the staff (well, old school anyway - I'm not sure she's even met all the new people - except Terrence [Professor Muddle to you guys!] who she likes) - notable friendships Jen Dobbins (before she left), Anna Kendrick and Emberlynn Eman (before she left). She doesn't get on with Blake Dobbs. Doesn't get on with' being a severe understatement. They loathe each other with a passion. Selina was going through a bad patch and feeling pretty depressed, Dobbs didn't exactly help matters by telling her she was doing them no good moping round her office all day and that she may as well snap her wand in half and go live as a Muggle. She's an animagus, taking on the form of a tawny owl, latin name Strix Aluco. She is a firm supporter of her House's Quidditch team and loved to play when she was at school. She and Leo were Chasers.
Her office probably reveals the most about her personality. The desk is
overrun with photos, with a paper sized space in the middle for
actually working on. Her top desk drawer is full of junk such as coat hangers
and rocks, which she uses for Transfiguration practice. Her middle
drawer is full of forms and all the dull crud she has to deal with as a
teacher. Her bottom drawer is probably the most interesting, as it has
things like letters in progress, hastily hidden chocolate wrappers, and
sometimes a hastily hidden copy of Bridget Jones' Diary' (ok, a lot of
the time). All her drawers are kept firmly locked (even the junk one, as
to leave one unlocked would make it look as though the others had
something especially worth seeing, whereas locking them all makes it just
look organised). |
