Scarlet 'Red' Aarden

Description:      Red has the compact build of her Dutch ancestors; she is athletic and fit, but could not be described as slender. She has a round face, a snub nose, a small (but occasionally loud) mouth, and lively and expressive gray eyes. No matter how much time she spends outside, her skin varies only a little from its original pale shade, though she tends to blush easily and brightly. She has unruly auburn hair to the shoulder, wears angular black glasses for reading, and is excessively fond of her magenta hat, which she wears almost everywhere.
Personality:      Red has a very strong presence despite her physical size. She has an (almost) impeccable intuition, a very defined sense of what is right, and is prone to very loudly and publicly defending her beliefs. Despite this she actually does not enjoy the limelight, and would prefer to be left to her own devices. She can be a bit of a loner, but does enjoy collecting friends. She is almost always moving (preferably by playing Quidditchshe prefers to play either Beater or Keeper) and has an overactive imagination and an almost preternatural ability to bend around the rules. When upset, she tends to swear in Dutch, a habit which her father gave up trying to cure her of long ago. She is also very impatient-and Merlin help anyone who wounds her pride!
Family Life:      Her father, now a professor of medieval history at NYU, immigrated from the Netherlands, where he was a grade school teacher, at the age of twenty-nine. He still retains a thick accent. Her mother, a Muggle, was a caterer in New York City but was killed in a magical accident when Red was three. The same accident left her father Nicolaas with a permanent limp.

After his wifes death, Nicolaas, who was descended from a long line of successful Dutch wizards, unofficially renounced the magical world and withdrew from it, living in Muggle areas and taking a job at a Muggle university. He raised his daughter, fondly nicknamed Red (or Rood in Dutch), with occasional help from their downstairs neighbor, a matronly lady whose tough attitude and warm heart Red later came to emulate.

Red knew only a little bit about the magical world before receiving her acceptance letter from Salem; afterwards, though, Nicolaas gradually re-entered the world he was born into for his daughters sake. He particularly enjoyed teaching her Quidditch, which had been his favorite pasttime as a boy. Red showed a natural affinity for the sportonce she was able to stay on the broom for longer than three seconds, that is.

Other Info:      Reds active imagination has given her grand visions for her futureand shes dead-set on seeing them through! She is determined to be a werewolf activist, an ambition spurred on by her fathers former student Godewyn Van Eych, a Dutch werewolf who visited them several times during her childhood, and who she immediately idolized. Amused and touched by Reds ambition, Godewyn has since kept up a steady correspondence with the girl, and despite the age difference (hes just turned twenty-six), they have struck up a very strong friendship.
