Repair a faucet

1- Shut off the hot and cold water supply valves if the valves don�t hold ,close the main water valve and replace the faucet supply valves
2- For faucets with separate handles for hot and cold. Remove the handle, under the handle is a nut remove the nut by turning to the left.
3- You will find a spindle or cartridge, spindle can be removed by unscrewing �cartridge can be removed by lifting up.
4- On spindle type you can replace the washer and bib screw
5- For cartridge type it will be best to buy a new one 
6-  Inside the faucet  you will find a seat  (rubber push in with spring or a brass screw in type)
7- For rubber type just pull up to remove (for screw in type you will need a seat wrench to remove the seat by unscrewing to the left
.(on old faucets some brass seats are part of the faucet and can not be removed.  (For this type you will have to buy a faucet seat reamer)
8- Install a  new rubber seat  and spring by pushing down until it sits into the hole in the faucet
9- Install a new brass seat using the seat wrench and turning to the right 
10- Put the cartridge in the faucet by pushing down and align with groove
11- Put the spindle in faucet by screwing it in .
12- Place the nut over the spindle or cartridge and tighten �turn to the right
13- Put the handles on  tighten
14- Open the water supply valves and check for leaks.

(Note:             For single lever faucets you can follow directions for cartridge type on this page.
                           Some faucets have a ball inside the faucet with a slot, when replacing the ball just
                           align the ball with the pin in the faucet.

Replace a kitchen sink

1 Shut off hot and cold water valves (if valves don�t hold or there are none close the main water valve for the house and replace or install new valves and make sure they are in the off position)
2 Disconnect the water supplies from the faucet
3 Disconnect the drain pipe from the strainer by removing the slip nut
4 Remove the anchor clips from under the sink. On self- rimming sinks just cut the caulking with a razor knife. 
5 Lift the sink to remove from counter top
6 Place faucet and strainer on new sink and tighten nuts (use plumbers putty on strainer)
7 Place flex water supplies on faucet and tighten
8 Place a bead of caulking on the counter top and set the sink (for sinks with anchor clips install and tighten from under the counter top.On self- rimming sinks just wipe off the caulking from around the sink)
Tip: Use latex caulking for easy clean up!
9 Connect flex water supplies to valves and tighten
10 Connect drain pipe to strainer with new tailpiece washer and tighten if drain line does not line up with strainer you will have to buy a offset .
11 Remove aerator  from faucet  and make sure the faucet is in the open position.
12 Open main water valve if you closed it .
13 Open valves under sink and let the water run to clean out the supplies and faucet
14 Place aerator on faucet and check for leaks.

drain pipe you will not need a tubing cutter
