Initial D is about 18 year old teenager Takumi, who has been driving tofu to a hotel every morning at 4:00 for the past five years. Then one night this new group called the Red Suns come by and challenged the Akina Speed Stars to a "battle" or a car race on Saturday. After Keisuke the second best driver in the Red Suns is going home, another car trys to pass him. But like all other road racers, Keisuke dosent want to let any one to pass him. Eventually against his will it passes him. So that leaves him wondering what kind of a car it was. The car was a Toyota AE86, which is a lower class car than Keisuke's Mazada RX-7. The driver is none other than Takumi(the tofu deliverer!), but no one knows that yet.
Iketani the leader of the Akina Speed Stars wants help from the so called mysterious 86 driver, 'cause Keisuke drops by at the gas station where Takumi and his friends work wanting to challenge the 86 driver.
Takumi isn't very interested in racing at first, but then he starts liking it leading to him racing against many others!(his dad bribes him to race the first time with a full tank of gas. ^_^)
UUmmmmm.... its way better than it sounds. Even if you don't know anything about cars you can still enjoy it!(i did and i don't really know much about cars! ^_^)
