About the Artist
This is a section that is all about, me, the artist. After all, if you're going to look at my art, you might as well know a little bit about me as well. Due to the unsafe nature of the internet, I am not giving out my real name. Instead I am using my penname, Saknika. I am a 17 year old student in New York (not the city), and have a good home life. I am a bit unusual and dark in my ideas, but I also hold a degree of normalacy. I love anime, but unlike some people, I do not force it on others or obsess over it to a disgusting point. I am also a big CSI fan, and think forensics are really intersting. My favorite form of art is Photography, and I see the world through a camera lens most of the time. I am going to attend Hallmark in the class of 2008 as well, to become a professional photographer.
Artist Biography
Saknika is a photographer who started participating in her passion at the age of 16, being inspired by her high school photography class. From there she has gone on to experiment in all aspects of photography, ranging from models to still life, and even some obscure shots. She works in both traditional and digital mediums, and generally prefers the traditional more because of the enjoyment gotten from working in a darkroom. She currently resides in the state of New York, and uses her mountainous scenery to its full advantage. This is her passion, and she is following it out of high school and into a career field.
Artist Statement
Photography is a way for me to take what is ordinary and everyday, and create an artwork that is unusual and aesthetically pleasing. Its through my lens that I can focus on things we dont normally see, and bring them into light. When I shoot, my goal is to achieve something new, something beautiful, and something that people can look at and god Oh wow, I never really noticed that before. That way, I bring into those small things in life we pass by, but that can be some of the greatest things to our five senses. In its own way, photography is my means of bringing more joy to this ever-dismal world we live in.
