The event of Kerbala has got lessons for everyone, whether they are young or old; male or female; and for each and every generation and era.The 72 great martyrs included people as old as Habib Bin Mazahir, and as young as H. Ali Asgher - each one giving us a message and lesson to learn; some of these included :
(1) The importance of Salaat
Imam Hussein (AS) and his followers showed us how important it is to remember Allah (S) at all times; especially through Salaat. We should always remember the last Salaat of Imam Hussein (AS) in Kerbala - which he recited amongst the shower of arrows, stones, and sand - guarded by his companions.
(2) Never bow in front of anyone except Allah (S)
The actual reason that the the battle of Kerbala took place was because Yazid wanted Imam (AS) to do allegiance to him. Imam Hussein (AS) proved to the world that no one is deserving enough than Allah (S); even if the most powerful tyrant tortures you, don't bow in front of anyone except Allah (S).
(3) Do not care for anything once Jihaad becomes wajib on you
The whole army of Imam (AS) showed us how their wealth, health, family, children and all their dearest things can be sacrificed to fulfill the order of Allah (S) to fight for Islam.
(4) Do not be afraid of anyone, and remember Allah (S) is always with you.
Even though Imam (A) and his army were completely wiped out in Kerbala, we still remember their great sacrifice... ... why ? Because if they gave away everything in the way of Allah (S). Even though Yazid's army won, Yazid never gained recognition for it - infact till today, he is cursed for his cruelty with Imam Hussein (A).
(5) Forgive EVERYONE, even if he is your enemy
Imam Hussein (AS) showed this especially when he forgave Hazrat Hur, even though he mislead Imam (AS)'s caravan to Kerbala.
(6) Do good with those who have done bad with you
Even though the army of Yazid cut-off water supply to Imam (AS)'s caravan, Imam Hussein (AS) offered water to the thirsty army and animals of Yazid when they arrived at Kerbala.
These are just SOME of the lessons learnt from the great sacrifice. It is a duty for us as Shi'as of Imam Hussein (AS) to understand and make them a part of our lives
