Yes! Last night I finished writing my entry for this year's Scarlet Boa contest. :D

25 Aug 2004, Wednesday

Exciting news! The Arabella issue Jess Michaels sent me arrived the other day. First thing I did was to head straight for her story Dueling the Debutante. Folks, if you haven't read it by now, I'm ordering you to secure a copy (Arabella Romances, vol.1 no.3) of your very own and read it at once. Thanks Jess! :)

Only six days until this year's Scarlet Boa deadline. Am I done writing? Nope. I really need to chain myself to my keyboard. :)

There are some very warm-hearted and wonderful folks out there. In addition to having met Stella Cameron, Robin Schone, Barb "Bad Barb" Hicks, and Sascha last year, in just the last few days I've met even more. They are: Jess Michaels, Kelly Callihan, and Jane Porter.

Special thanks goes out to Jess Michaels; I can't wait to receive the Arabella issue that has your story in it! :)

What else is going on: I've decided to try out for this year's Scarlet Boa Contest. There are only two weeks left to write a scene. Hopefully, I can make it.

17 Aug 2004, Tuesday

It's been ages since I've updated this site, but I've been busy having to deal with real life difficulties. Despite all that, I've managed to keep writing, even if it's just a little bit each day.

Right now I'm busy working on a couple of short stories, which I'm hoping to submit. I don't believe in talking about stuff I'm working on because I've noticed that doing so kills the work in progress. I don't remember whether or not it was Hemingway who said something similar, but I know it to be true, based on my own experience.

For several months now, it has become financially impossible for me to buy new books so I've come to rely on public libraries for my reading material. On the one hand I'm grateful that I have this option but on the other, I'm sad that I can't read new books as soon as they hit the stores.

This was my entry for this year's (2003) Scarlet Boa Contest:

Sebastian

Sebastian's entrance was punctuated by the sound of shattering glass. As he swept into the ballroom, his arm brushed against an ornamental vase sitting on a low pedestal by the doorway, sending it crashing to the floor and silencing the music. All eyes on him, he flashed the crowd a boyish grin and nervously combed his fingers through his pale gold hair. He then focused his attention on donning his gloves as though it were the most absorbing exercise in the world.

Across the room, Jane and her friend Elizabeth entered just in time to witness Sebastian's mishap. As they continued to watch, he crossed the floor, colliding with one lady and spilling champagne down the back of another. Jane stifled the urge to laugh.

"Who is that and is he in his cups?" she asked Elizabeth as they turned away and walked toward the line of chairs. "I've never seen him before."

"You mean the walking disaster?" Elizabeth smirked behind her fan. "He's Sebastian Montgomery, Lord Reese's younger brother recently returned from the Continent. And no, he doesn't drink. Although you certainly couldn't tell by the upheaval that usually attends his appearances."

"This happens often then?"

"Quite. He's become rather the spectacle. Oh that's right, you aren't up on the latest on dit, being the stay-at-home that you are."

"Why, do you fancy him darling?" Elizabeth went on, glancing slyly at her friend. "I hear he loves books, is something of a poet and," she paused, throwing Jane a mischievous smile, "since you are of similar bent and still without a beau-"

"Now listen here Elizabeth Evangeline Pryce! Don't you dare play matchmaker with me!"

"Who said anything about matchmaking?" Elizabeth replied with feigned innocence.

Jane was about to make a scathing rejoinder, when another loud crash made them turn around. This time, they saw Sebastian trying to casually sidle away from a servant picking broken china off the floor. Elizabeth's next words sent a chill down Jane's spine.

"Oh God. He's coming this way."
