Sak's brief biography |
I was born on the first day of June 1974 in Bangkok, Thailand. I am the first of the two children of my family. My sister, Santima (Tip for short), was born almost 5 years later on April 6, 1979. My formal education started when I was three at the kindergarten not so far from my home. In 1980 (I guess!) I moved to the Holy Redeemer school for my first elementary class. I do not think I was a good student at the first instance. I remember vividly how everyone was so surprised to learn that I passed the exam and would not have to spend another year in grade 1. Such a great experience! |

In 1986, I entered Suankularb Vittayalai (Suankularb College) and stayed there for 5 years to finish my grades 7-11. I cannot say I had the best moment of my life there but it was, with no doubt, one of the happiest periods of my life. |

By skipping grade 12 and passed the national entrance examination I entered Kasetsart University in 1991. Chemical Engineering was my chosen area of study. After spending 4 years at Kasetsart I finally got my first degree in 1995. |

I arrived in Canada in late 1995 to attend McGill University in Montreal. In April 1997 I received my master's based on the study, conducted under the supervision of Prof. Arun Mujumdar, of the hydrodynamics and drying characteristics of a novel spouted bed dryer. I then started my Ph.D. study, also under the supervision of Prof. Mujumdar, in the summer of 1997. My project was to study the hydrodynamics, mixing and heat transfer characteristics of laminar and turbulent confined impinging streams. In June 2001 I took the final oral examination of my thesis and received my doctorate (with Dean's Honour). During the stay at McGill I also had an opportunity to work for Drying Technology - An International Journal as its Editorial Assistant (1997-2001). In July 2001 I was appointed Assistant Editor of the journal and in March 2006 Associate Editor. I hope to keep associated with the journal and hence be able to serve the drying community for the years to come.

Since October 2001 I have been with the King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (from 2001-2002 as Lecturer, 2002-2005 as Assistant Professor and 2005-present as Associate Professor of Food Engineering). My research is still in the general area of transport phenomena but with a stronger emphasis on food-related problems including the effect of drying and other thermal processes on bio-quality of the products. |
