CAUSE OF EARTH QUAKES
Earthquake are a vibration of the earth do to a rapid release of energy. Energy is released because of rapid movement on a fault. Faults can be identified by the offset of a rock layers on either side of a fracture. Blocks of rock on either side of the fault move relative to each other. The picture I got off (see picture below) the internet shows a fault cutting through a light colored layer surrounded by red rock.
