07-05-2003: Has Saiya survived the horrible week of ultimate boredom?

I know, I haven’t typed in a while; but I survived! The worst thing was that there was no ninja, but the end of the week turned out fun! You see; my parents went away for a family reunion in Germany on Wednesday, en they wouldn’t come back until Saturday evening. My brother and I had to take care of things while they were away. I always think it’s exciting to be home by myself, it’s nice and quiet (well, except for the brother part) and I can do everything I want.

Anyway, my brother went working on Friday and Saturday so I invited Lelie to spend the weekend at my place. She arrived on Friday evening. We planned to watch Fushigi Yuugi DVD’s and eat Chinese food with chopsticks ^^;; My brother wanted the computer Friday evening and night, so I said that if he wanted that, Lelie and I would go ALL Saturday (he’s working most of the day, anyway). We watched a fun movie Friday evening.

We woke up early Saturday to watch Fushigi Yuugi. Lelie had 6 DVD’s with each 9 episodes, which makes 52 in total, which is the entire series! She also has 3 disks of Fushigi Yuugi OVA’s. Lelie herself was just at episode 29 on the 4th disk so I could borrow the first 3 disks of the series. We started watching from ep 1 on Saturday. I loved it!!! (So many bishounen @_@) We took some breaks to buy yummie stuff (like chips and lotsa candy =P) and to check if anyone was on AOL. By the end of the afternoon we watched the first 2 disks, that’s 18 episodes. Then my dad called and said he’d be home in one and a half hour. We cleaned up a bit, and went to get some Chinese food. My parents came home and found us sitting there with a bowl of rice, eating with chopsticks. So much fun! @_@ I already had some practice in eating rice with chopsticks on Thursday.

Lelie didn’t go home too late, and my brother came home and began to complain about that he had to take care of the house all by himself and blah blah blah. That was NOT true! I helped a lot. You think you have a nice and quiet weekend without your parents whining around you… It seems my brother took over the whining part -.-;

Well, what else happened? Uhm… my parents were kinda fighting, my father was really sulky after that weekend (he doesn’t like family reunions). That fighting kinda upset me, but I soon forgot about it when I was chatting and watching the remaining episodes of FY. I picked up my grades from school today, I really have good grades! That turns out well before the exams ^^;; I’m glad Lelie has already taken her exams, it helps a lot to talk to her about it.

08-05-2003 : About ninja training…

Well, Lelie and I finally got to train with the red and green belts! It was kinda hard in the beginning, with all those combo’s, but that is why we joined the red and green belts… We wanted a challenge; I did learn a new kick (one that comes from behind the shoulder). And in the end, I indeed felt really challenged. I hope to join them again next time ^^;;

I was the one who heard we could train in the other group last time. I wanted to, but it was up to Lelie to ask this time, because I didn’t dare x x; I’m really glad she did, though. If we pass our next exam, we have to join that group anyway.

One more week until my exams… I didn’t study much yet… But that’s beside the point; the thing is; my dad won’t let me go to ninja in the week of my exams. Ninja is the whole reason why I get such good grades, and it’s a great way to lose stress. If I can’t go to training that week I’m afraid I’m gonna lose my self-esteem… I’m trying to convince my parents and I already said to them: ‘I will go, with or without your permission!’

Lelie, and all the other kunoichi, my senpai, I don’t want to miss them; not even for a week! I’ve haven’t missed a lesson up till now! I went when I was feeling sick, when I bruised my ribs (Yes that happened to me, more than once! It didn’t even happen at training…) I won’t miss one lesson because of my exams either!

16-05-2003 : Ninja report and an exam announcement

Ninja:

Well, 14-05 we got to train with the green and red belts again. The combo’s were great! I was not able to keep up with the senpai every time, but at my own speed it went okay. We also practiced the rolls x x; (*cough*kneeshurt*cough*)

The forward one went okay; at least, the senpai had no comments on me… The roll backwards went okay when I did one at a time, but I had some errors when I had to do 2. We also learned a new one; basically a side wards one (hard to explain) Graham said to Lelie and me that we didn’t had to do that one on our next exam, and that we could forget about it. That roll went okay, only I can’t remember how to do it again.

We also did the arm-break-thingy again. Last week I asked Lelie to do it on me in the dressing room and she made my arm go ‘pop’ (just the sound, my arm’s fine). This time we finally got to do it on each other during training. Lelie made my arm go ‘pop’ again! It’s not fair; she didn’t even feel much when I did this grip on her! x x; Anyway, after that, we did another ‘old’ grip (the neck-break routine. One of my favorites! @_@)

Well so much for this week’s ninja training… Oh! Lelie wants to try out kendo sometime, and I’m being dragged along ^^;; We already found a dojo nearby via the internet, and now we just have to check out how much a try-out lesson is. It’ll probably be next season, though… And I guess I’ll always be more of a ninja (especially after I found out how strict they are at kendo; Cleaning up the dojo, fold your clothes right, braid your hair >< Can’t braid my hair, it’s cut in layers x x;) Still, I’d like to give kendo a try

Exam announcement:

It’s Friday the 16th now, my exams will start on Monday the 19th. For all those who care (those who don’t care just have to live with it >P) this is what my week of exams looks like:

Don’t expect any blog entries in that week… I’ll try, but don’t count on it.

The best thing is probably that I convinced my parents to let me go to ninja that week. It’s gonna help me to lose stress and the chi-meditation is great for me to stay focused for the rest of the week and it’s also supposed to give inner peace. Now, the reasons why my parents wouldn’t let me go at first, is that they wanted me to have enough sleep, but after ninja training (which is on Wednesday evening, for the record) I always sleep well. They also were afraid that I would get hurt, but so far, I’ve never been hurt from training…

So, I guess this is my last entry before the exams. I’m nervous, but on the other hand; people (especially Lelie and Shiro) have been telling me that I don’t need to be nervous. Thanks for that, you guys! I have a good motivation to pass… and I know I’m pretty smart and that I stand pretty good, considering my grades. Wish me luck, and please deposit any good-luck charms at the door!

24-05-2003 : Freedom at last~!

I’ve been running at full speed for so long.

This is a good break.

I should rest as much as I can.

And someday, I will want to start running again.

(Okina about Aoshi - episode 62, Rurouni Kenshin. Slightly modifid by me…)

My exams are over. I trust in my own abilities and in my friends who say I’ll pass for sure. It was great that I could check the answers and calculate a possible grade on the internet, just half an hour after the exams were over. It took away my doubt and worries, because it turned out all my grades will probably be high enough. But I still keep the option that something could have gone wrong somewhere…

What I can say is that I can take it easy now, and regarding to my school work, I can stop ‘running’ for a while. I will see to it that I’ll get a job this summer so that I won’t get bored. Besides, with the money I earn with it I can buy anime stuff and ninja equipment ^^;; I had a job interview to weeks ago, but I didn’t get that job (it was at the supermarket in my hometown. I tried to get a job there before…) So I applied for another job at a supermarket in another town, I’ll hear from them soon…

Well, I started practising my Aoshi-drawing that’s gonna be on my door. It looks neat! And so big~! @_@ And there’s also a lot of ninja-related-things to look forward to: First off all; we get to fight with 2 new weapons upcoming Wednesday (the yawarabo and the tesse). Then there’s ninja camp next weekend! Lelie and her niece Kim are also going; it’s gonna be so much fun! And we’ll be learning to fight with a whole bunch of new weapons! After that it’s the 9th kyu exam on June the 29th; I’ll finally get to wear a red belt if I pass!! (Need to order a red belt first, mustn’t forget.)

Next season my ‘ninja-school’ will organize 7 training Saturdays, you have to pay for them separately, but if you always pay on time for the regular lessons you’ll get a huge discount! Those training Saturdays will also take place at the beach or in the forest. Lelie and I are definitely gonna try that out some time! There will also be some special new ninja lessons called ‘Jissenjutsu’ (‘actual combat’), it focuses on the fighting (mostly with partners), this we also like to give a try! I think it’s pretty cool they’re doing so much new stuff.

Wednesday my protective gloves for ninja will probably come in. It was said that they were great for camp and for randori (free fight), since we get to do that more in the lessons now. Lelie will pay for my gloves, since I have a lot of expenses this month; I want to thank her very much for that. I’ll pay it back as soon as I found a job! At least with these gloves, Lelie and I don’t bruise each other anymore if we practise together ^^;; (We’re definitely some of the few ninjas that actually put some force in out techniques.)

I also read a book this weekend. I borrowed it from Lelie. It was a biography of a former Geisha. It was such an intense life-story! It also got me even more interested in Japan , and especially Kyoto . I so want to go there! And I will... sometime.

END MAY
