IN LOVING MEMORY OF
HIS EMINENCE MAWLANA
MUHAMMAD ABDUL ALEEM AS-SIDDIQI AL-QADIRI
(may Allah be pleased with him)
Almost all great religious communities have had, in every stage in their history, great luminaries and exponents who expounded arid manifested their religious beliefs and practices shedding unprecedented new light on them so that their religious precepts continue to stand out high against the tides of time. The Islamic community the world over has had one such great personality, in recent times, and that was His Eminence Mawlana Shah Muhammad Abdul Aleem Siddiqi Al-Qadiri was a refulgent link in the chain of his reputable ancestral line of Islamic Theologians and Spiritualists, having descended from the first of the Rightly Guided Khalifahs of Islam, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (RA) and was born in the city of Meerut in the pre-partitioned sub-continent of India, in or around the year 1891. He acquired the best in both, the Islamic and the Western education and rose to combine the best in ancient and moddern disciplines with an in-depth insight into the spiritual aspect of Islam, under the able tutelage, training and guidance of a widely acknowledged band of men of great wisdom and piety. Therefore, it is no surprise that he shone with both, the acquired knowledge and the gifted knowledge inspired to him by God, and became a distinguished exponent of the massage of Orthodox Islam (i.e.: that of the Ahlu-s-Sunnah) to the modern man.
With these great qualities of head and heart he travelled continuously for about forty years from town to town, country to country and continent to continent until his unceasing labours of love for the promotion of peace and harmony and the spiritual reform and uplift of humanity covered a major part of the world, in his such mission he travelled round the globe many times shedding spiritual light and blessings into millions of human hearts belonging to diverse races and nations in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. It was because of this he was formally called, by those who knew him and have benefited from him, by the appellation "The Roving Ambassador of Peace".
Due to his efforts, through his dynamic and refulgent personality, there sprang up numerous Islamic Missionary Societies, Masjids, schools, hospitals, libraries, infirmaries, orphanages and periodicals, in the wake of his immortal missionary labours, in various parts of the Muslim World. To speak only of Singapore, he had thousands of spiritual disciples here and whenever he visited Singapore, Muslims and Non-Muslims used to assemble in great numbers to pay their respect to him and obtain his blessings. It was during one of his such missionary visits to Singapore that he founded the All Malaya Muslim Missionary Society which is now known as the Singapore Muslim Missionary Society in the year 1932. And it was in his heart the idea of forming an Inter-Religious Organisation was first conceived and he was instrumental in the formation, in the year 1949, of the Inter-Religious Organisation which was then the first of its kind in the whole world.
He enjoyed wide popularity throughout the Muslim World and was loved, respected and venerated not only by Muslims but also Non-Muslims. He was respected by the governmental leaders of many countries, including Non-Muslim countries. This is sufficiently proved by the fact that he was chosen to represent the entire Muslim world to bless Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in her Coronation Ceremony.
Having led a life of utmost piety, dedication and matchless service to mankind in the cause of Allah this great blessed soul parted this world to meet the Mercy of Allah, when he was in Madinah, in year 1954. May Allah enshroud him in His infinite Grace and Mercy and elevate him to the status and assembly of His chosen. Amen!
