Blackburn Composition Award
Margaret Blackburn was an initiate of Alpha Mu Chapter at Carnegie Mellon University in 1935.  Until her death in 1993, she was an active Pittsburgh Alumnae Member.  Her accomplishments include the composition of the Sigma Alpha Iota Chorale in 1947.  In 1990, this chorale was made an official part of our Ritual Ceremony.
As a Sigma Alpha Iota sister, Margaret was awarded the Ring of Excellence for her chorale.  In 1990 at the SAI National Convention, the Ritual Service was dedicated to her, to show appreciation for her dedication to the fraternity.
The Blackburn Composition Award started in 1997, in honor of Margaret Blackburn.  The Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter hosts this award.  It is open to all female composers.
