Mabel Biever Graduate Scholarship
In Music Education
Sponsored by the Oak Park Alumnae Chapter
Scholarship Description: One scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded annually for advanced study in Music Education.

this scholarship will be applied to tuition costs at an accredited college or university offering a graduate degree in music education, and must be used for study leading toward that degree.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Applicant must be an alumna member of Sigma Alpha Iota in good financial standing withthe fraternity and must have completed or be current in Life Membership payments.

2.At the time of the application, the applicant must state her intention to pursue graduate study in the field of music education.

3. The applicant must show proof of having been accepted into or continuing in an accredited graduate program leading to a master's or doctoral degree in music education.

4. The applicant must have completed an undergraduate degree in music education.

5. One year of teaching experience in a public or private school is preferred.

Entrance Procedures:

1. Obtain an official application form from the Director.

2. Prepare or obtain the following:
a) An official transcript of undergraduate or graduate degree work.
b) A written statement of professional goals and mission.

3. A VCR tape (VHS format), not to exceed 45 minutes that demonstrates the following:
a) Classroom music education skills using portions of one or more actual teaching periods.
b) Proficiency as solo performer or conductor. The repertoire selected should be from representative works or movements from three contrasting periods, and should demonstrate musicianship, technical accomplishment, varied temi, styles, etc.

4. Three letters of recommendation in separate sealed envelopes as follows:
a) from the teaching supervisor or administrator.
b) From the graduate school (if pursuing a doctorate degree), or from the undergraduate school (if pursuing a master's degree).
c) From an individual of applicant's choice (personal/character reference).

5. A non-refundable application fee of $20, payable to Sigma Alpha Iota Philantrhopies, Inc.

6. Sigma Alpha Iota Philantrhopies, Inc. reserves the right to withhold the awarding of the scholarship if,m in the opion of the panel, no applicant is judged to be sufficiently qualified.

Deadline for scholarship is usually April 15.
